p.1

Previous inspection good Enforcement action since last inspection None

p.2

This inspection

This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At this interim inspection Ofsted judge that it has improved effectiveness .

p.2

This inspection

The Registered Manager and staff have continued to provide good quality care for young people who present challenging and, at times, negative or risky behaviour. As the home has developed and evolved, staff have become more experienced, knowledgeable and skilled in supporting young people.

p.2

This inspection

There were no requirements or recommendations raised at the full inspection. The manager’s internal monitoring is thorough and comprehensive. It demonstrates in depth reflection of the care provided in the home and the impact it has on young people. External monitoring takes account of the views of young people, staff and social workers. It reports on the premises and the progress individuals make. The manager acts promptly to address any areas raised for improvement.

p.2

This inspection

Young people are at different stages in respect of their progress and the length of time they have lived in the home. They each face a number of challenges. Some young people present with negative and high-risk behaviours. However, in consideration of their starting points, there is significant progress. This includes attendance at school and potential to achieve national qualifications, where previously they were non-attenders. Young people have become able to explore all aspects of their identity and engage with social networks to support this. They access activities that they enjoy and benefit from positive contact with people who are important to them. For some young people, aspects of risk and vulnerability are much reduced. This demonstrates the positive impact of the care provided by staff in the home.

p.2

This inspection

There is some improvement in the physical environment, particularly in one of the lounges. Staff and young people have developed a cinema room, with cinematic posters on the walls. This reflects young people’s ideas and interests. Other areas of the home would benefit from redecoration and improvement. Some of the walls 3 of 5 are chipped and the carpet in the lounge is stained. This does not give a homely feel or encourage young people to take pride in their surroundings.

p.2

This inspection

There has been one complaint since the last inspection; this was made to Ofsted. The provider investigated and gave a comprehensive response, detailing action taken. No further complaints have been made by young people or others.

p.3

This inspection

There are very few incidents of missing from care. Thorough records are completed following any incident and staff chase the placing authority to complete return from missing interviews. This promotes young people’s reflection on incidents and ensures that placing authorities carry out their statutory duties.

p.3

This inspection

Staff manage behaviour through positive incentives and use of consequences that help young people to reflect on their behaviours. Staff address incidents of aggression without resorting to physical restraint. There are positive relationships with the local police. Where possible, police interact with the young people in a proactive way to highlight the consequences of illegal or socially unacceptable behaviour. In instances where the police have been called due to escalated, aggressive behaviour, staff ensure this is followed with mediation with young people. This promotes forgiveness and avoids feelings of rejection.

p.3

This inspection

Young people do not raise concerns about the care they receive. They say that staff support them to develop their independence skills, build positive relationships, promote their educational achievement and that staff advocate on their behalf. 4 of 5
