The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides plenty of resources to promote children's all-round development. She effectively uses these resources, as well as planning activities, to support and extend their next steps in learning.  The childminder helps to prepare children for the move to school as she builds their independence. For example, encouraging children to dress themselves, putting on their own shoes.  The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles well. She provides them with daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise such as going on walks.  The childminder has a well-established programme of professional development. She continues to attend regular training to update her knowledge and skills. She implements her learning from courses to help improve her provision. As a result, she has a good understanding of the learning and development, and safeguarding and welfare requirements.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently seek ways to encourage all parents to be actively involved in the sharing of their children's achievements from home, to maximise children's learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides plenty of resources to give children choices, and uses lots of language to engage with them when they play. The childminder effectively introduces learning into children's daily routines. For example, she helps them begin to recognise numerals, such as looking at numbers on houses during outings. The childminder encourages children to express themselves and use their own ideas during art activities. For example, children choose a variety of materials to decorate pictures of themselves. The childminder takes children on regular walks around the community to learn about nature. She provides plenty of equipment in her garden for active play, to help extend children's physical development and encourages them to exercise. The childminder uses good observation and assessment systems to help her to quickly identify and support any gaps in the children's learning. She shares

children's learning journals with parents regularly to keep them informed of their progress. However, she does not always encourage parents to be actively involved in the sharing of children's achievements from home.

p.3

good

The childminder is friendly, and has a calm manner. She builds close relationships with children, which helps them to settle in quickly and effectively. The childminder teaches children the self-help skills they will need when they start school. For example, she demonstrates how to wash hands thoroughly. She praises children for their positive behaviour, which helps to boost their self-esteem. As a result, they behave well. During outings, the childminder teaches children about road safety. For example, how to cross the main road safely. The childminder discusses healthy lunch options with parents when their chidlren first start. This helps her to promote healthy eating. The childminder has good links with the local schools and pre-schools. This helps her to share information and provide continuity in their learning between two settings.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements. She attends regular safeguarding training and clearly explains the procedures she would follow if she had a concern about a child's welfare. She carries out risk assessments of her house environment on a regular basis. This all helps to identify potential hazards and address them, so children can play in a safe environment. She attends training courses to update her skills and knowledge. The childminder self-evaluates her practice very well to ensure children receive high-quality care and effective learning opportunities. She meets regularly with other professionals, and these meetings help her to reflect and audit her provision. This helps her to plan future improvements.
