who attend. This requires improvement
The childminder effectively adapts activities to suit the individual needs of children. For example, during a game younger children call out the names of household objects while older children place the objects in different parts of a house template. Children discuss and learn about where different objects belong in the house. This activity promotes older children's knowledge and understanding of the world and younger children's communication and language development. Consequently, the individual needs of children are met. However, some aspects of teaching need improvement. For example, during literacy activities, the childminder inconsistently alternates between letter names and letter sounds. As a result, children are not consistently learning to link letters with their sounds in preparation for next stages in their learning.
p.3
requires improvement
The childminder provides a warm and caring environment for the children. Children are, therefore, emotionally secure. The childminder provides interesting opportunities to extend children's imagination. For example, she plays music and leads them on an imaginary walk. Children pretend they see an apple tree and pretend to eat apples. They enjoy this activity and they learn to express their views and ideas through role play. Children make healthy choices as the childminder provides them with nutritious snacks and lunches. However, opportunities to promote children's independence are sometimes missed. For example, older children are not always encouraged to clean their faces by themselves after lunch. Children get fresh air and exercise in a secure outside area and in the local play park. They are learning some good hygiene practices as the childminder prompts them to cover their mouths when they cough. However, this is not always

consistent as children sometimes use their personal cutlery to serve themselves a second helping of food from shared bowls.
p.3
provision requires improvement
The childminder does not have a sufficiently thorough understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements as she is caring for too many children in the early years age range. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures, helping her ensure that children are protected from harm. She regularly evaluates the quality of the provision and plans for improvement. For example, she has set a target to improve links with other settings the children attend. Consequently, she shares written updates of the children's progress with the pre-school staff. This promotes continuity in children's education. The childminder undertakes training with the local authority and seeks guidance from local authority advisors to improve her performance.
