The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides a broad range of activities for children and supports their progress well across all areas of learning.  The childminder demonstrates good quality teaching and is effective in meeting children's needs. Children are confident and motivated in their play, and in their interactions with the childminder.  The childminder promotes children's good health well. Children enjoy physical activity in the garden and healthy snacks which comply with their dietary requirements.  The childminder is a good role model and consistently reinforces good hygiene and safety practices. This positive support teaches children routines and procedures to keep themselves safe.  The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of child protection issues and appropriate procedures to safeguard children's welfare.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always gather clear information from parents about children's starting points for learning. This means she does not have all the information she needs to plan their progression effectively as soon as they attend.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 gather more information from parents in order to plan activities which meet children's learning needs right from the start.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home and in the garden.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records, planning documentation, policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of parents' views recorded on questionnaires.  The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a good range of resources to promote children's learning in all areas. The childminder interacts positively with the children using questions particularly well to support children's language development and understanding of the world. For example, the children discussed the colours of the fruit they were eating. They talked about where fruit comes from, how it grows and at what time of year. Children progress well in their learning. The childminder gathers some information from parents when children first attend. However, this mainly refers to children's care routines and interests rather than what they can do. Therefore, the childminder does not have all the information she needs to fully promote children's learning from the outset. Nevertheless, she frequently exchanges information about children's ongoing progression with parents. The childminder regularly observes children and monitors their achievements. This helps

her promote children's learning effectively and meet their needs. Parents make positive contributions to children's assessments and complete questionnaires to provide the childminder with feedback on her practice.

p.3

good

The childminder's home is safe and welcoming. Children have positive relationships amongst themselves and with the childminder. The childminder promotes children's active learning well by engaging in stimulating physical play with the children in the garden. For example, she joined in with playing tennis, football, hopscotch and an egg-and-spoon race. She encouraged the children to concentrate and keep focused. The childminder is a good role model to the children, as she leads by example and consistently encourages good behaviour. As a result, children behave well, share and take turns. The childminder promotes independence by encouraging children to pour their own drinks and put on their outdoor clothes. This helps children develop the skills they need in readiness for school. The childminder promotes children's emotional well-being effectively.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She implements effective procedures to help keep children safe and shares these with parents. The childminder demonstrates that she is committed to promoting better quality provision for children and their parents. She has met the recommendations raised at the last inspection. She has a clear vision and plan for future improvements. The childminder reflects on her teaching and incorporates children's interests into her planning. She has good partnerships with parents and other settings, which helps her meet children's individual care and learning needs successfully.
