The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder is very attentive to children's needs, which helps them settle well. This means children are well prepared to explore and make progress in their learning.  The childminder plans a wide range of activities which support children's development and help them to make good progress in their learning.  The childminder is driven to improve her practice. She evaluates the effectiveness of her setting confidently and makes improvements that take account of parents' views and children's needs and interests.  The childminder keeps careful records which effectively support children's welfare and development.  The childminder has established useful partnerships with parents and they share information about children's development, which promotes good continuity of care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not take every opportunity to support children's expressive language.  Younger children have few toys within easy reach, which means the choice of what they play with is limited.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She regularly observes children as they play and clearly demonstrates that she knows the children well. The childminder then uses these observations to identify and plan for children's next steps in learning. She takes steps to develop children's language through speaking clearly with them and reflecting back what they say. However, she misses some opportunities to promote this further by giving children time and a reason to speak. The childminder appropriately challenges children in their development when she provides a range of different textures to explore, such as noodles and mud. Children concentrate as they make marks using wool and paint. The childminder links activities with a range of cultural festivals and children listen to range of music from round the world. The overall good quality of teaching helps children make progress in their learning.

p.3

good

Children feel comfortable with the childminder and they feel able to start exploring their environment. Children behave well. They learn to use kind hands, which helps to keep other children safe. The childminder helps children lead a healthy lifestyle. Children benefit from a range of healthy foods. They sit and eat with the childminder, who encourages them to try new foods, such as pita bread and hummus. Children have plenty of opportunities for active play outdoors. They benefit from regular visits to local woods, where they can run freely and explore the natural environment. She keeps her home clean and teaches children to wash their hands thoroughly before they eat. The childminder has a good selection of toys suitable to the ages of children who attend. However, limited toys are in reach for the youngest children to make decisions about what they play with.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of her role and responsibilities as a childminder, including the required records that she must keep. She has a good understanding about what to do if she has any child protection concerns. She has a good awareness about keeping children safe and takes effective steps to minimise risks. The childminder continually reviews her practice and has recently completed a childcare qualification. This has deepened her knowledge of how children learn and improved the quality of her teaching. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has improved her observation and assessment systems, in order to monitor children's progress. This has enabled her to build on what children can do more accurately. She develops effective relationships with parents and other providers, which allows for a shared approach to children's care, learning and development.
