p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder is very sensitive to children's emotional needs. Children thrive in her care because she creates a secure environment where children's well-being is fully met.  Teaching is good because the childminder uses her observations, and those of parents, to plan activities and an environment which excites and motivates children. As a result, all children make good progress in all areas of their learning and development.  The childminder is very reflective. She identifies her strengths and weaknesses and puts plans in place to improve her already good practice to ensure the best outcomes for children.  Partnerships with parents and other providers are well established. Parents have trust in the childminder and they work together very well to meet all children's needs.  The safety and welfare of the children is prioritised at all times by the childminder. She is very aware of risks in the environment and minimises them swiftly to ensure

children's safety is maintained.  The childminder understands the local authority safeguarding procedures. She knows how to protect children from harm and who to obtain advice from if she needs it.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children have fewer rich and varied experiences in their play because the childminder does not always provide resources that can be use imaginatively and in many different ways.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 maximise rich and varied experiences for children by providing a range resources that can be used imaginatively and in many different ways.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked around the parts of the home used for childminding and observed the children's activities.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's records, a selection of policies and procedures and evidence of suitability of adult members of the household.  The inspector took account of the views of parents provided through written feedback.

who attend. This is good

All children are supported very well in the childminder's care. This is because she gets to know children and their families quickly, listening to what parents say when children start in the setting. She uses this information to make sure that children's individual needs are fully met. Parents are involved in children's learning. The childminder gives them regular feedback and they are encouraged to share children's achievements from home, such as learning to do star jumps. The childminder works well with teachers in schools that children also attend. She liaises with them on a daily basis so that she can plan activities that support what children are learning in school back in the setting. The childminder provides a range of resources for children to use, both indoors and outdoors. However, the childminder does not always provide resources, such as treasure baskets full of natural resources, that children can be use imaginatively and in different ways.

p.3

outstanding

The childminder has developed excellent relationships with parents and carers. They communicate well with each other at the beginning and end of each session. The childminder is very thorough and gives utmost priority to making sure that she has all the information that she needs to provide outstanding care for each child. As a result, children are extremely confident, happy and relaxed when they come into the setting and throughout the session. The childminder uses stories to talk with children sensitively about significant changes, such as starting school. She plans car journeys and walks which follow the route to school. She skilfully uses these opportunities to prepare children for the next stage in their learning. The environment welcomes children and parents extremely well. Indoor and outdoor areas provide children with lots of opportunities to be physically active. The childminder prepares a wide range of healthy meals and snacks which children

enjoy. The childminder maximises opportunities to develop children's growing confidence and independence, such as putting on their own shoes to go outside to play.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has completed a relevant childcare qualification and as a result of this has a very good understanding of how young children learn and develop. This means that children are supported well through a range of experiences which are suitable to their individual needs. The childminder keeps up to date and continues to develop her already good knowledge and understanding the Early Years Foundation Stage. She attends training courses and works well with other childminders in the locality. This helps to support her in areas that she has targeted for her professional development. The childminder tracks individual children's progress across all areas of learning and development. This enables her to identify any gaps in learning and development and puts plans into place to ensure that all children make good progress. Parents are extremely happy with the high level of care that the childminder provides for their children.
