This provision is good
The childminder undertakes good quality observations and assessments which clearly identify the next steps in children's learning. As a result, she plans appropriate and stimulating activities, which help children make good progress towards the next stage in their learning. Children are happy in this warm and welcoming setting. The childminder nurtures and supports children's emotional well-being so that they feel assured, comforted and supported through close and trusting relationships. Children are safeguarded in the childminder's care. This is because she has a good knowledge about how to safeguard children and how to identify if they are at risk of harm. Strong partnerships with parents means there is regular two-way communication. This ensures children's progress and development is consistently shared and parents are supported to help continue their children's learning at home. The childminder has arrangements in place to reflect on and evaluate her practice. She

understands the importance of continuing to keep her knowledge and skills up to date and does so through attending training courses.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Children occasionally lack opportunities to further extend their curiosity and learning as there are few opportunities to explore the natural world in the outdoor environment. Children are not able to independently access all the available toys and resources, to enable them to freely initiate their choices in play.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop further the outdoor learning environment to include more opportunities to explore the natural world enhance the accessibility of resources and toys so that they are freely accessible to children of all ages, to enable them to make independent choices in their play.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children during activities both indoors and outdoors. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of documentation including children's records, safeguarding procedures and the childminder's written policies and procedures.
p.2
who attend. This is good
The childminder demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of how young children learn and develop. The childminder collects comprehensive information from parents prior to their children starting at the setting, enabling her to identify their individual next steps in learning. She provides children with a wide range of interesting activities that cover all areas of learning in both the indoor and outdoor environments. However, outdoor activities do not fully enable children to experience the natural world. For example, the childminder has not provided areas for growing plants or vegetables, developed creative play opportunities, such as a mud kitchen, or provided opportunities for children to explore the world of insects and mini-beasts. The childminder develops children's communication skills well. She talks to them all the time, modelling new words, and asking questions to get them to think and understand what they are doing and why.
p.3
who attend. This is good
For example, while making malleable dough she asks them what will happen if they add more water and asks them to consider what the dough feels like. The quality of teaching is good. As a result, children are making good progress and are well prepared for school or their next steps in learning.
p.3
good
The childminder provides children with a stimulating, yet homely environment in which to play and learn. She provides various age-appropriate toys and resources. However, storage arrangements mean that children have to ask to play with some resources, which means that on occasions children are not always able to make independent choices and freely initiate their own play. The childminder knows children well and is caring and sensitive to their individual needs. She is a good role model, encouraging and promoting good manners, sharing and turn taking. She recognises children's achievements by giving regular praise to build self-esteem and confidence. The childminder promotes children's awareness of healthy lifestyles, through a healthy diet and promoting good hygiene. Children are able to build their independence through carrying out manageable tasks at mealtimes. For example, they butter their toast and peel their bananas.
p.3
provision is good
Children benefit from the childminder's secure knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder has a formal childcare qualification which has a good impact on the learning experiences she offers children. She is very positive about ongoing professional development. Parents speak very positively about the childminder stating they regularly share information about their children's development, and feel reassured leaving their children in her care. Partnerships with the local school have been built as the childminder ensures she shares relevant information with them about children's development, enabling a consistent and shared approach to their learning. The childminder uses a range of policies and procedures to support her practice, and carries out regular reviews of these to ensure they are up to date with current legislation.
