This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. There is a broad range of age-appropriate resources which are available to children in both the indoor and outdoor environment which children can use in a variety of ways. The childminder has a good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She uses observations well to plan a range of activities which support children's learning and development. Children's emotional well-being is supported, as the childminder creates plenty of opportunities for them to manage their self-care needs. The good quality of observation, planning and assessment provides interesting and stimulating activities that engages children and enables them to make good progress. The childminder establishes good partnerships with parents. Information is shared on a daily basis about children's learning and development. As a result, parents feel involved in their children's learning and children benefit from continuity of care and learning.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements, which are effectively met. She understands her role and responsibility to ensure children are supervised, kept safe and well protected.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend children's language skills because she sometimes does not wait for children to respond to her questions. Young children are not always given opportunities to explore their own ideas during creative activities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as, the childminder's policies, self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of members of the household. The inspector and childminder undertook a joint observation of an activity.

who attend. This is good
Teaching is good, and the childminder skilfully intervenes to extend children's learning during activities. For example, during role play she encourages the children to play with the imaginative play food and stack different sized cups. Consequently, children begin to develop an understanding of size and shape. Children have access to a good range of activities and resources, which they can use independently. They express their creativity as they draw and make collages of a caterpillar from a popular story. However, the childminder sometimes over directs children's play instead of allowing them time to explore their own ideas. For example, despite children being capable of designing their own pictures the childminder sometimes does it for them. Young children smile and babble to the childminder, and she constantly talks to them to extend their developing vocabulary. Occasionally, childminder does not give children sufficient time to think of

their own responses to simple questions to further extend their thinking skills. Children thoroughly enjoy finding out how things work and show delight in pressing buttons to make a train go round and round a track.

good
The childminder is warm and welcoming, and as a result, children bond with her and are happy and settled in her care. She knows the children and their families well, and gathers good information about children's needs to ensure they have a smooth settling in. Planning and assessment arrangements are precise and sharply focused on every child's needs and shared with parents. This ensures every child makes rapid progress, as they move on to school. Children have many opportunities to be active and engage in physical play both in the childminder's garden, at playgroup and local parks. The garden offers a varied range of activities and children dig, plant and look for insects in the 'bug hotel'. The childminder is knowledgeable about how to manage children's behaviour, so that they learn to behave well and know what is expected of them. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles by providing fresh fruit and drinks for snacks and encouraging parents to

provide a healthy packed lunch. Children learn how to keep themselves safe on outings and how to exit the premises in an emergency.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder implements effective policies, and safe working practices to support children's health, safety and well-being. The childminder identifies her strengths and areas for development through self-evaluation. She builds strong partnerships with parents and other professionals. Parents speak highly of the childminder. They say, 'I think it is fantastic, my child's development is well ahead for their age and I put this down to the childminder and her commitment'. The childminder regularly completes training, to further promote good outcomes for children. She ensures that her knowledge, including her paediatric first aid, is kept up-to-date.
