who attend. This is good

The childminder provides purposeful activities to promote children's learning and development across the seven areas of learning. Children are excited to explore the effects of winter by cracking an ice film as part of an outdoor water play experiment. The childminder and assistant are nearby to offer support and make good use of opportunities to repeat children's language and introduce new words. As a result, children are making good progress in their communication and language skills. The childminder introduces mathematical concepts in children's routine. For example, when they help to set the table for lunch, children count their friends aloud joining in together saying, 'one, two, three, four.' The childminder encourages them to develop their problem-solving skills by asking them to sort crockery and cutlery for each other. Regular exchanges of information about children's achievements, and parents' positive contributions to children's assessments,

ensure children's learning is supported at home.

good

The childminder's home is safe and welcoming. Children have positive relationships with the childminder and her assistant, and they enjoy their cuddles, praise and consistent reassurance. Children have opportunities to be active and engage in physical play, both in the front and rear garden areas and while on daily outings. They practise balancing on beams with the childminder close at hand to offer support and reassurance as needed. They know why exercise is important to their health along with a healthy diet commenting 'this water is good for me'. The childminder meets their individual dietary preferences with wholesome home-cooked meals and snacks. Children benefit from regular trips to toddler groups to develop their social skills and confidence. The childminder helps children to develop a good understanding of the diverse community in their locality. This awareness of diversity is helping them get ready for the move on to school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a secure knowledge of the learning and development requirements and how to keep children safe. She reviews risks in the environment regularly and involves children in helping to keep the home safe and secure. The childminder is committed to promoting good-quality provision for children and their parents. Systems for evaluating what is working and what needs to improve are being developed. The childminder regularly seeks the views of parents and uses these in her planning. The childminder keeps a close check on how well the children are doing in their learning and shares this with parents. Effective systems for planning and assessment result in children having good-quality care and learning opportunities. There is scope to further inform professional development opportunities through the childminder and her assistant observing and evaluating each other's interaction with children. This is to ensure that their good practice
