This provision is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder uses a good variety of techniques to support individual children's learning needs. Children are focused and complete tasks as the childminder engages with them while they play. The childminder has a very good understanding of the children's learning and development needs. She uses regular observations and assessments to ensure children are provided with challenging learning experiences that build on their prior learning. As a result, children are motivated learners. The childminder monitors children's progress regularly. This ensures that any gaps are identified early so that appropriate interventions can be sought. Children are given clear messages regarding how to keep themselves safe. The childminder talks to the children about handling tools, such as scissors, correctly and about why this is necessary. Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. They demonstrate confidence

and secure attachments with the childminder, their peers and visitors. Children have free access to a good range of toys and resources that help them develop their independence skills. Partnerships with parents are good. Information regarding children's learning is shared on entry to the provision, as well as through regular communication. This ensures that parents are aware of their child's learning and achievements.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Mark-making activities are not always available, limiting children's opportunities to experiment with and develop early writing skills. Examples of children's work are not displayed around the environment. As a result, children's self-awareness and pride in their achievements are not fully supported.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed interactions between the children and the childminder during play. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at documentation including children's developmental journals, risk assessments, a range of policies and procedures, and evidence of the childminder's suitability. The inspector had a tour of the premises, including all areas used for childminding. The inspector took account of comments made by parents and the provider's self- evaluation document. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the provider.

who attend. This is good
Children's communication and language development are well supported. The childminder interacts effectively with children as they play. She repeats words back to them to provide them with accurate pronunciations, in order to support their communication skills. Effective questioning from the childminder about what children are doing and why, extends and challenges their thinking skills. The childminder ensures that children are prepared for their next stage of learning and, where appropriate, ready for starting school. Mathematic development is well promoted as the childminder introduces counting and number recognition through songs and stories. Children count with confidence and identify numbers within their favourite books. The childminder introduces the children to phonics during stories and while they play. Children can sound out the letters in their name. However, they have limited access to pens and crayons to enable them to experiment with

good
Children are provided with clear expectations for behaviour and are extremely well behaved. The childminder is a good role model, demonstrating the good use of manners, and the children are polite and respectful of others. Children of different ages interact well together and are developing good friendships. Children share, take turns and work together to achieve a common goal. For example, they work together to complete large floor puzzles, exchanging pieces and helping their friends find the correct pieces they need. Examples of the children's work are not displayed around the environment to encourage them to develop self-awareness and a sense of pride in their achievements. The childminder engages the children in discussions about healthy food and why a healthy diet is important. Children are encouraged to manage their own personal hygiene needs appropriate to their age. Young children wash and dry their hands independently. Children

have daily access to the outdoor environment and visit local parks and places of nature regularly. This promotes their physical well-being as they enjoy being active.

provision is good
The childminder has a good range of policies and procedures that help to ensure that children are kept safe and protected from harm. Thorough risk assessments are in place for the childminder's home and outings, including safe transportation in the childminder's car. Effective self-evaluation ensures the childminder continues to support the different children who attend. Mandatory training is updated regularly and the childminder plans additional training to meet the changing needs of children. The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Information is shared regularly with parents regarding children's learning. This ensures that parents have a clear understanding of their children's progress.
