Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's lounge and conservatory. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation, and a range of other documents, including policies and procedures.

who attend. This requires improvement
The weaknesses in the assessment of children's achievements and progress affect the effectiveness of planning and the quality of teaching. However, children feel safe in this setting. They quickly settle down to play with a range of interesting and exciting resources, which are within easy reach. Children generally enjoy the one-to-one attention of the childminder, who is on hand to support play. For example, as she encourages children to bath baby dolls, they talk about caring for others and what bath time is like at home. This promotes children's personal, social and emotional development through imaginative play. The childminder provides some appropriate support to promote children's communication and language. She helps them to learn the names of animals as they come out of the toy box, but does not always use effective methods to encourage children to speak. There are some activities that give children opportunities to engage in

active play. However, the childminder is not fully effective in targeting support to promote individual children's physical development. Children move around the environment between activities fairly confidently and safely.
p.3
requires improvement
Overall, the childminder is a positive role model in children's lives, helping them learn how to play safely, manage behaviour and make friendships. The childminder encourages children to take steps towards independence. Children are gaining confidence in tasks such as putting on shoes and feeding themselves. The childminder makes sure younger children have time to rest and adequately promotes their health. She ensures snacks and drinks are nutritious and children learn about good hygiene. The environment is safe and furniture and equipment are of good quality. The childminder generally helps children emotionally grow, in readiness for new challenges in their learning.
p.3
provision requires improvement
Overall, the childminder demonstrates an adequate understanding of her responsibility to promote children's learning and development, and their safety and well-being. She has begun to evaluate the quality of her service and takes account of parents' views. However, her continuous professional development plan has not identified the weaknesses in some elements of the educational programmes. The childminder is secure in her knowledge of safeguarding. She makes sure all those who have contact with children are suitable. Her partnerships with parents, and others who play a role in children's lives, are evolving but are not fully effective in providing consistency in supporting children's learning.
