p.1

This provision is good

 Children are making good progress in their learning and development. This is because the childminder implements a wide range of teaching strategies and completes regular observations of children at play.  The childminder organises resources so that children can make decisions about what they want to play with and be independent.  Children develop close relationships to the childminder because she is caring and sensitive to their individual needs. As a result, they settle well and develop confidence and high self-esteem.  The childminder plans activities to help children learn about different cultures so that they expand their knowledge of the diversity of the wider world.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently review how children are progressing with their next steps in learning at home, to further promote their learning and development and partnership working with parents.  The childminder is not fully integrating mark-making activities into all areas of children's play to encourage children to begin to write for different purposes.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review how children are progressing with their next steps in learning at home to further promote their learning and development, and the contribution that parents make to their children's learning  provide additional opportunities for young children to explore mark-making activities to support their early writing skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the premises during the inspection and observed the outdoor play space.  The inspector observed a range of learning activities in the lounge.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises, children's development records, risk assessments and a selection of policies and procedures.  The inspector talked to the childminder about her plans for improvement.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a friendly, welcoming approach and uses lots of praise and encouragement, which successfully promotes children's confidence and self-motivation. Children form good friendships with each other and show positive behaviour. Children benefit from good quality interactions from the childminder. She joins in sensitively with their play and asks many questions to keep children engaged and extend their conversations. For example, during play with matching picture cards, children are asked to find the matching baby animals. The childminder adapts planning to meet children's individual interests and choices. For example, she ensures that a selection of imaginative play activities feature regularly. This is because she knows that the children attending currently enjoy playing with these. A wide range of toys are available and cover all areas of learning. However, children do not have sufficient opportunities to develop their mark-

making skills to support their early writing skills. Children's communication and language skills are fostered well.

good

Children settle well in the welcoming and child-friendly environment provided by the childminder. They form close emotional attachments to the childminder and are happy in her care. The childminder works closely with parents from when their children first start to ensure she meets their individual needs and routines from home. However, she does not consistently review how children are progressing with the next steps in their learning at home, to further promote their learning and development. Children have many opportunities to be active and engage in physical play, both in the childminder's garden and at local soft play centres. The childminder keeps children safe and provides healthy meals and snacks. She uses good safety measures to safeguard children. For example, she practises regular fire evacuations with the children. Children wear high-visibility jackets and safety harnesses when out to ensure their safety. Plenty of praise and encouragement

from the childminder promote the children's self-esteem.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She gives priority to safeguarding and has a good understanding of her role and responsibility in protecting children from possible harm and neglect. Planning and assessment arrangements are precise, sharply focused on every child's needs and shared with parents. This ensures every child makes good progress. The childminder assesses her own practice, identifying her strengths and areas for development. The childminder has developed effective relationships with other settings, including local nurseries and the primary school, which supports children's next steps in learning.
