The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 Children are happy and feel safe and secure in the childminder's welcoming home. They form good relationships and learn to respect and value each other due to the consistent and positive support they receive from the childminder.  Children are keen to learn as the childminder provides a broad range of activities and learning opportunities that reflect their individual interests.  The childminder interacts well with children as they play, extending their language and understanding through effective discussions and questions.  The childminder reflects on her practices to identify areas for improvement, and is proactive in seeking feedback from parents and children to gain their views.  Parents receive information about children's progress and ideas as to how they can contribute to children's learning further at home, which keeps them fully involved.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always forge direct links with other early years settings that children attend, to help ensure they work closely together in supporting children's learning and development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 extend the links with other early years settings, to promote consistency for children's learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a sample of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents and the provider's self- evaluation.

p.2

who attend. This is good

Children are keen to learn as activities link closely to children's interests. For example, in response to their interest in Chinese New Year, the childminder supported children in using the computer to gain information. She provided them with paints, brushes and sponges when they decided to make their own pictures, enabling them to extend their interest while ideas are fresh in their mind. Children laugh and giggle as they play, responding happily to the childminder's questions and discussions. This increases their confidence in using language, and extends their understanding. The childminder engages children in problem solving. They worked together using building blocks to recreate a bus shelter. They considered which bricks will work best, comparing shape and size to extend their mathematical and physical skills. The childminder has a good understanding of children's individual needs. She plans activities based on her assessments, adapting them

as necessary to involve children at their own level. This means children make good progress. The childminder shares information with parents daily and encourages children to take toys home to play with, involving the whole family in their learning.

p.3

good

Children settle well and feel a strong sense of belonging. The childminder helps children to gain confidence and independence and feel proud of who they are. They learn to accept and value differences, helping them to develop positive relationships with their friends. Regular trips to toddler groups help to prepare children socially and emotionally for the next stage in their learning, such as pre-school or school. The childminder implements effective practices to promote children's health. Children have daily opportunities to play outside, where they develop good physical skills. They talk about healthy options as they choose from the lunchbox and follow good hygiene routines. The childminder uses her risk assessment to provide children with a safe and secure play environment. She also teaches children strategies to keep themselves safe.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development and welfare requirements. She is committed to providing a flexible, quality service for children and parents. Parents are aware of the childminder's role through the policy pack she provides, including policies on complaints. The childminder has a good awareness of safeguarding procedures to keep children safe. She seeks feedback from parents and children to help her ensure she offers what they need. She attends training to increase her knowledge and skills, which has a direct impact on how she helps children to learn. However, the childminder does not always link closely with all other early years providers where children attend more than one setting, to ensure they work together to plan for children's progress.
