p.1

This provision is good

 Safeguarding of children is good. Policies and procedures are effectively implemented, as a result children are protected and kept safe.  Children make good progress because the quality of teaching is effective. The childminder knows the children well and provides experiences and activities that take account of their interests and individual learning needs.  The childminder establishes good relationships with parents. Information is shared on a daily basis, resulting in children benefitting from continuity of care and learning.  The childminder is consistent in the ways that she manages children's behaviour, offering lots of praise and encouragement. As a result, children behave well.  The childminder continually works closely with children, encouraging them to engage in a wide range of play experiences. This ensures children are continually motivated to learn.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always use the correct word to describe an object to further support children's language development.  Arrangements for sharing information with other early years settings and schools, does not include precise information about children's level of achievement.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 raise the quality of teaching and children's achievement, particularly in their communication and language development, for example, by using the correct word when identifying an object, so that children are more effectively supported to understand and learn new words more rapidly  extend the range of information, which is shared with local schools and early years settings to include more detailed information about children's progress, to ensure their learning is consistently maximised.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has effective systems in place for observation, assessment and planning. These are used effectively to plan for children's next stage of development. Therefore, children develop the skills that they need in readiness for school. The childminder provides a good range of learning opportunities for children. For example, children enjoy filling and emptying plant pots, exploring the texture of the soil in their hands. Children have uninterrupted time to play and explore together. The childminder joins in sensitively, fitting in with the children's ideas and preferences. She plays alongside the children and talks to them as they play. However, at times, the childminder does not use the correct word when naming objects, to further support and extend children's communication and language development.

p.3

good

Children are very happy, settled and confident in the childminder's setting. The childminder promotes partnerships with parents well and ensures information about children's well-being, is shared. Children have opportunities to engage in regular physical activities, which contribute towards a healthy lifestyle. The childminder acts as a good role model. She teaches the children about acceptable behaviour and supports them in learning how to share, take turns and respect each other's feelings. This builds their self- esteem and helps them to feel emotionally secure in the setting.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. There are effective policies and procedures in place that guide her practice. Children's safety is a priority. The childminder's premises are safe and secure. She regularly monitors and tracks children's progress. This process ensures children make good progress in their learning. The childminder has made improvements by working on the recommendations raised at her last inspection. She accurately monitors her practice and has clear plans in place to drive future improvement. The childminder is committed to her ongoing professional development and attends regular training. She works with other childminders and the local authority advisor to develop her knowledge and skills. This helps her to improve outcomes for children. The childminder shares some relevant information with the local schools and other early years providers to support

continuity of children's care. However, more detailed information relating to children's achievements and progress, is not always exchanged, to ensure children's future learning is continually enhanced.
