The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides a wide range of motivating and interesting activities. These effectively challenge children's development in all areas.  The childminder has a secure and warm relationship with the children. Children feel safe with her and have fun together.  The children are confident when communicating with each other and with the childminder. This is because the childminder encourages their language development.  The childminder has good relationships with parents and other early years settings that children attend. She understands the importance of working in partnership to support children's development.  Children behave well because the childminder acts as a positive role model and rewards good behaviour. They respond to the childminder's requests and take part in tasks, such as tidying away their toys.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally the childminder does not give children enough time to respond to her questions. Therefore, she does not fully develop their thinking skills and is not fully aware of their level of understanding.  The childminder does not explain to children how to keep themselves safe, for example, to walk, and not run around indoors.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 allow children time to respond to questions so that they can develop their thinking skills  maximise opportunities to help children learn how to keep themselves safe in the indoor environment.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the indoor and outdoor environment.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed children's development records and the childminder's documentation.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector gained feedback from parents by viewing parent questionnaires and written feedback.

p.2

who attend. This is good

Children have access to an environment that is inviting and set up with activities for them to explore. For example, the childminder provides playdough with a wide range of different cutters, trays of porridge filled with mini beasts and large tubes taped to the wall for children to post balls into. This encourages their independence and investigation skills. The childminder consistently supports children's learning by asking varied questions, which help them to respond and describe what they are doing. She offers good levels of extension during activities, which provide good levels of challenge to enhance learning. For example, while exploring the playdough, the childminder encouraged children to find the letters of their name. The childminder monitors and assesses children's learning to ensure they are making good progress in their learning. However, occasionally the childminder does not give children enough time to respond to her questions. This means

she does not fully promote their thinking skills.

p.3

good

Children are extremely confident. They interact well with the childminder, include her in their play and ask for support if needed. This means that they feel safe and secure. The childminder provides opportunities for children to go outside and explore activities. They enjoy playing in the childminder's garden and nearby woodland and play parks. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and decide on appropriate clothing for indoor and outdoor play. However, children sometimes run around inside which causes them to fall over. Although the childminder asks them to stop, she does not explain why. This means she does not fully develop their understanding of how to keep themselves safe. The childminder values children's individual cultures and religions and helps children to recognise special times and customs of others. The childminder is a good role model and helps children to use good manners, for example, they say, 'Thank you' when she

gives them their food. Children have a good understanding of hygiene practices. These skills prepare them for their move to school.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a secure knowledge of the safeguarding and welfare requirements. She completes effective risk assessments of her home and puts safety measures in place to minimise any risks. The childminder is committed to improving her provision and has highlighted areas for improvement. For example, extending her outdoor area to provide better facilities for the children. The childminder has attended training to improve her knowledge and understanding of promoting equality and diversity. This has a positive impact on children because she is able to teach them confidently about the world they live in. The childminder understands the importance of keeping elements of her training up to date, such as safeguarding children training. This ensures that she keeps children safe.
