This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning and development because the childminder provides a broad range of well-planned activities. Children form appropriate bonds and secure emotional attachments with the caring childminder and thrive in this homely environment. Children's safety is assured because the childminder constantly reappraises the environment to ensure that it remains suitable at all times. Children are effectively safeguarded because the childminder has very good understanding of the child protection procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. The childminder's good relationships with parents, including an effective two-way-flow of information, makes strong contribution to meeting all children's needs successfully. The childminder actively seeks and shares advice and guidance with other childcare professionals in order to support children's care and education effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is yet to fully monitor and assess the impact that gaining a further childcare qualification is having on her provision. As a result, she is not as confident as she could be in her abilities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make better use of the skills and knowledge gained from completing further childcare qualifications by reviewing and assessing the impact this is having on practice in order to improve confidence and maximise the opportunities provided for children.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises with the childminder. The inspector observed teaching and learning activities in the indoor and outdoor learning environment. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation including policies and procedures and children's information and assessment records. The inspector carried out an evaluation of the teaching with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of suitability of all adults living or working at the premises. The inspector took account of the views of parents included in questionnaires provided by the childminder.

who attend. This is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and implements these well. She devotes her time to the interaction with the children which helps her to gather clear knowledge of children's interests and abilities. Children's development is enriched because the childminder uses this information to good effect to extend the activities and daily routines into continuous learning experiences. The childminder and parents share accurate accounts of the day's events and often take time to review the children's progress. Children are enthusiastic, engaged and actively involved in their own learning. They are developing good confidence and self-esteem as they receive plenty of praise and encouragement for their efforts and achievements. This helps children to progress well and to develop good skills for their future learning, such as moving on to nursery or school.
p.3
good
The childminder's home is safe and welcoming. She sets out varied activities ready for the children as they arrive and children can choose from the additional resources in the conservatory. In the dining room children enjoy creative and messy activities, such as exploring the textures of shaving foam or cornflour and water. The childminder gathers relevant information from parents about routines and preferences and ensures these are implemented well to meet the needs of the children. The childminder is a good role model. She uses consistent methods, and age and stage appropriate explanations, to provide children with a clear understanding of acceptable behaviour. Children benefit from plenty of opportunities to be active and enjoy the fresh air either in the garden or at the local park. They also enjoy trips to local groups and activity centres, which helps them to develop good social skills and increases their confidence.
p.3
provision is good
The childminder reflects on her practice and identifies well-targeted priorities for development. She attends events in order to update all required training, and regularly meets with other childminders to discuss best practice. Since the last inspection the childminder has gained a further childcare qualification and is considering doing more training. However, she has not fully assessed how she is using her extended knowledge to make the most of the opportunities for children. As a result, at times she questions her abilities and is therefore less willing to put her new skills into practice. The childminder shares relevant information with the staff at nursery and school to ensure that children receive consistent and complementary experiences across settings. The childminder also ensures that parents are well-informed about the provision she offers through a wealth of displayed documentation and well-written policies and procedures. The parents have

recently shared their views about the childminder and say 'We are pleased with how we are working together with regard to behaviour'. They also say that they feel like the childminder is 'like an extended part of their family'.
