p.1

This provision is good

 Children make good progress in relation to their starting points and capabilities, as the childminder provides varied and exciting experiences for them that she bases on their needs and interests.  The quality of teaching is good, as the childminder is skilful in her interactions with children. She uses questions well to support, extend and encourage children's learning and development.  The childminder has established strong partnerships with parents because she shares information particularly well with them.  Through practices such as fire drills, and ongoing discussion about handling tools and equipment, the childminder teaches children how to identify and manage everyday risk.  The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting high-quality provision. She has completed a formal childcare qualification since her last inspection, which has had a good impact on the learning experiences she offers children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not maximise opportunities to encourage children's understanding of how numbers can be used.

who attend. This is good

Children thrive in the childminder's professional and responsive care. The childminder provides a good range of activities to promote children's learning and development across all areas. She uses observations, parental information and precise assessment to tailor activities for children. She provides sensory art activities to promote younger children's use of words. As a result, children are ready for the next stage in their learning and school. The quality of teaching is good. The childminder asks useful questions, adding toys sensitively to extend learning as children lead their own play. As a result, children make good progress. The childminder effectively promotes children's communication and language development. She teaches younger children new words. Older children develop sentences as she adds words or phrases to their conversation. Children develop their early reading skills as the childminder sits and reads to them and directs their attention to the

wide variety of environmental print. However, she does not make the most of pictures, posters or labels for children to see numbers in use around the setting.

p.3

outstanding

The childminder supports children's personal, social and emotional development extremely well in a stimulating environment. She quickly establishes an extremely supportive ongoing dialogue with parents through daily discussions and an online provision. As a result, she knows children particularly well, adapting the routine to ensure they are comfortable and settled. She uses highly effective methods to encourage children to develop strong bonds with herself and each other. For example, she sits with children and shares photo books of their play and their achievements. Children learn to share toys and show interest in their friends' play as the childminder explains children's choices and actions to each other. The childminder encourages younger children to cooperate with their care routines and begin to recognise their own needs. Older children go to the toilet independently and learn how to wash their hands, developing confidence in managing

their physical self-care. Children benefit from regular outside play in the fresh air. Children are developing their independence, understanding of risk and have fun as they learn.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of her responsibilities to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She is fully aware of procedures to safeguard children. Well-organised documentation helps her keep children safe. The childminder evaluates her practice effectively overall, identifying her strengths and areas for further development. She encourages children and parents to contribute to the self- evaluation process. Parent questionnaire responses are overwhelmingly positive. Parents appreciate her ideas and strategies to help them support their children's at home.
