p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder provides a welcoming and inclusive home environment, with a broad selection of toys, resources, activities and outings.  The childminder successfully helps children to engage in their play through her interactions. She has a good understanding of children's current interests and their abilities. As a result, children are making good progress in their learning.  Children demonstrate that they are happy in the childminder's care. They have a warm bond with her because she is sensitive to their individual needs.  The childminder has a positive partnership with parents. She shares her policies and procedures with them so they understand how she promotes their children's health, safety and well-being.  The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses some opportunities to extend activities planned around children's interests, to further promote how they become aware of numbers, sorting, position and mathematical language.

p.1

who attend. This is good

The childminder enthusiastically engages children in their play. She maintains good communication and as a result, children listen and respond well. This means that their language is developing securely. The childminder uses her knowledge of the children to extend their freely-chosen play. She develops children's interest in vehicles to explore other modes of transport, including trucks, a shopping trolley and a toy wheelchair. Children designed a junk model car, manipulating tools to stick on wheels. This good practice promotes how children learn to be creative and talk about what they make. However, the childminder missed some opportunities to fully promote how children use early mathematical language such as 'on top' or 'next to', how they add or subtract, or sort in size. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's achievements. Overall, she plans well for their next steps and regularly shares their progress with

good

The childminder has a warm and caring nature. Children respond to her well and show that they feel emotionally secure. Children behave very well. They listen to the childminder and cooperate with her expectations. Children are well mannered, using 'thank you' in their response as the childminder serves their snack and pours them a glass of water. The childminder helps children how to manage their own safety, for example how to use scissors in a safe manner. She plans effectively for children's learning and covers a broad range of topics. Although the childminder does not have a garden, she is proactive in ensuring children receive worthwhile outdoor learning opportunities, physical exercise and fresh air. Children's independence is promoted well. They understand about self-care routines relevant to their age; for example they wash and dry their hands prior to snack.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has completed safeguarding training and understands how to protect the children she cares for. She is clear about the procedures to follow should she have a concern relating to a child in her care. The childminder reviews her risk assessments for her home and for outings, so that children can play safely. The childminder has reflected well on her provision of care. She is confident to highlight that she has benefited from training courses to support her professional development and the outcomes for children. The childminder works well with parents when children initially start. She therefore has an effective knowledge of children's routines and prior achievements. She promotes children's continuity of learning by proactively working in partnership with others sharing their care. Children are well prepared for the next stage of learning.
