The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder welcomes children warmly and knows them well. Consequently, children are happy, confident and have close relationships with the childminder.  The children are safeguarded well. This is because the childminder has a clear understanding of her role in keeping children safe and has effective strategies in place to do so.  The childminder's teaching skills support children's engagement, motivation and thinking skills. As a result, children make good progress in their development.  The childminder keeps clear policies, procedures and children's records, which she regularly updates, shares with parents and makes available for inspection. This promotes children's learning and welfare effectively.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully developed partnerships with parents and other early years settings that children attend, to promote consistency in children's learning.  The childminder does not provide a wide range of activities outdoor to promote a healthy lifestyle where children can benefit from vigorous exercise and explore the natural world.

who attend. This is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and provides a broad range of activities which interest and challenge children. These prepare children well for their future move to school. Children's speaking and listening skills are well developed because the childminder holds stimulating discussions with children throughout the day. She uses open questioning techniques successfully, which encourage children to share their thoughts and ideas. The childminder successfully supports children's interest in number through a wide range of games. As a result, children are keen to count and look carefully for printed numbers. Children learn about living things for example, when they closely observe the family gecko. They have some opportunities to play outside using wheeled toys and enjoy visits to the park. However, these activities do not give children enough opportunities for vigorous play or to explore the natural world to

fully promote their understanding of healthy lifestyles and of the world around them.

The childminder helps children learn about safety by involving them in practising the emergency evacuation procedures. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for managing their personal hygiene. This means children become confident to use the toilet and wash their hands using soap before they eat.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibilities to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder continually reviews and develops her practice and is aware of her strengths and areas for development. She has attended training in communication and language and consequently, has a better understanding of how to promote children's speech development. The childminder provides parents with a suitable understanding of her role and responsibilities. The childminder supplies written information to parents about her service, including policies and procedures. The childminder has not fully established partnerships with parents and other settings children attend to share information and promote continuity in children's learning.
