The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder carefully plans a broad range of interesting activities for children which support them to make very good progress in their learning.  Children are developing excellent communication skills. They are articulate and confident during their play and when speaking to the childminder.  Children are very happy and settled in a nurturing home environment. They form positive relationships and attachments with the childminder.  Children behave very well because the childminder has consistently high expectations of their behaviour. As a result, children are well behaved and ready to learn.  The childminder keeps children safe and protected at all times because she has a good understanding of the action to take should she have any concerns regarding a child's welfare.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always encourage parents to share detailed information about what their child is learning at home, so that teaching can be precisely tailored to complement children's individual needs  The childminder has not yet identified training courses to further enhance the good quality care and learning she provides, so that children make the best possible progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance the opportunities available for parents to share even more detailed information about what their child is learning at home, so that teaching can be precisely tailored to further complement children's learning  identify training courses to further enhance the good quality care and learning provided, so that children make the best possible progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of teaching in the childminder's lounge and playroom.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation, and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder provides a good range of activities to promote children's learning and development across the seven areas of learning. Children have access to a wide variety of good quality, interesting resources that are easily accessible and this promotes their independence very well. The childminder joins in with children's play and uses a range of challenging questions and appropriate language to extend their learning and vocabulary. As a result, children progress well. They are skilful communicators and enjoy learning new things and this prepares them well for the next stage in their learning. The childminder maximises opportunities to teach children mathematics, for example, they talk about 'size' and 'shape' when they are playing with the dough. She encourages children's thinking skills by asking them to think about how they can fit the puzzle pieces together. The childminder shares information about children's care routines and what they have enjoyed

learning verbally on a daily basis. However, opportunities for parents to consistently share what they know their child can do at home are not yet robust. This means that the childminder does not always plan precise and focused experiences for children to complement their learning at home.

p.3

good

The childminder's home is clean, well maintained and safe. Children have very good relationships with the childminder; they approach her for help when they need it and involve her in their play. As a result, children are confident and self-assured. Children are encouraged to be healthy; they enjoy physical play in the garden and on outings in the community. The childminder uses these opportunities to teach children about road safety and helps them to manage risks in their play. She provides healthy and nutritionally balanced meals and works with parents to plan meals for children who have allergies and food intolerances. The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour and talks to them sensitively about what is acceptable. This helps children to understand boundaries and as a consequence, they are very well behaved.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a very good understanding of the learning and development requirements and how to keep children safe. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice. She has successfully addressed the recommendations from her previous inspection which reflects her commitment to continual improvement. She has very good links with the local school and she takes children to events they hold to help prepare them for starting school. She monitors children's development effectively and knows who to contact if she has concerns about their progress. The childminder holds a level 3 qualification and has kept up to date with mandatory training, such as paediatric first aid. However, in the last two years, she has not identified additional training to constantly improve her practice and this means she has been unable to identify different ways of sharing information about children's learning at home.
