The setting meets legal requirements for early years settings

p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder accurately monitors and plans for children's next steps in learning. As a result, children make good progress in relation to their starting points.  The childminder supports and challenges children well in their chosen activities. Consequently, children are interested and motivated to learn.  Children develop good independence, self-confidence and positive attitudes to one another. This helps to promote their future learning and school readiness effectively.  The childminder maintains a safe and secure environment for children and helps them to learn about keeping themselves healthy and safe.  The childminder demonstrates a good commitment to making on-going improvements to the quality of care and learning for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently encourage children to count in their play to strengthen their understanding of number.  The childminder does not successfully engage all parents in contributing accurate information about their child's development at home. This means she does not effectively build on children's learning at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend children's mathematical development by providing more opportunities for them to count during their play  strengthen partnerships with parents by encouraging all parents to share their children's home learning achievements.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children.  The inspector observed the management of children's care routines.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records.  The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.2

who attend. This is good

The childminder promotes children's learning successfully from the start with activities linked to their interests. She keeps parents very well-informed of their child's progress with summary reports each term. However, the childminder does not successfully engage all parents in contributing information about their child's on-going learning at home. The childminder skilfully interacts in children's play and extends their learning as they complete puzzles, build towers, read books and model dough. She provides picture cards and photographs, which inspire children to talk about their ideas. The childminder responds quickly to their choices and ideas. For example, when children asked to make snow. They measured out water, scooped and stirred fake-snow mixture in and explored the feel of the snow. She encouraged children to name the objects they hid in the snow and to talk about their play. This promotes children's communication and language effectively.

p.3

who attend. This is good

However, the childminder does not maximise opportunities for children to count in similar activities, to extend their understanding of number.

p.3

good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment that reflects children's individuality and interests. She provides support and reassurance and meets children's care routines consistently. As a result, children develop close and trusting relationships with her. This helps to promote children's personal, social and emotional development well. The childminder encourages children to manage their own personal care, such as feeding themselves at meal times and hand washing. She helps children to develop positive attitudes and good social skills through her routines and clear expectations. Children learn to play happily and with one another and show very good manners. Children confidently explore and engage for long periods in their play. The childminder provides a well-resourced outdoor play area, which children benefit from. They learn how to climb, slide, crawl through tunnels, ride wheeled toys and dig. This helps to promote

their physical development well and understanding of a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

provision is good

The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has a secure understanding of her role and responsibilities to help safeguard children's welfare and the correct procedures to follow in the event of any concerns. The childminder successfully evaluates her provision and attends training courses to develop her skills and to enhance children's individual needs. This helps her to make improvements to the quality of children's care and learning. The childminder establishes good working partnerships with parents. She obtains parents' views and values their contributions. They comment that the childminder provides a calm and happy setting in which children are happy and enjoy the stimulating environment.
