p.1
Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Sarah Haylett, monitored your provision on 06/11/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 26/02/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You have implemented a safeguarding policy and procedure that meets the requirements of registration. In discussion with the inspector, you described possible signs of abuse and the steps you would take if you were concerned about a child's safety or welfare. This means that children are adequately safeguarded while in your care.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You do not currently have any children on roll so you are not currently completing any regular checks of the premises. However you explained your assessment of the potential risks to children and the steps you have in place to minimise those risks. For example, you will use cupboard locks to prevent children accessing cleaning fluids and alcohol in kitchen cupboards.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You have forms for parents to sign to give consent for you to take children on outings and you plan to ask the parents of any children you look after in the future to sign these forms. You also plan to give any new parents a copy of the Ofsted complaints poster so that you can be reassured that they have Ofsted's contact details. The Ofsted poster will also be displayed in your hallway.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You have obtained some information about the progress check that should be completed for any minded children aged between two and three years. You were not able to explain what the progress check would include however you plan to read through the information should you look after any children of this age in the future.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You do not currently have any children on roll so you were unable to fully demonstrate how you meet children's learning needs. You plan to complete a learning journal for each minded child you look after in the future. The learning journal will include an observation each day the child is cared for and you will use the observation to plan activities for the child. However, you demonstrate a limited understanding of the areas of learning and the Early Learning Goals. The activities you describe lack breadth and you do not demonstrate that a range of teaching would be used to help children progress in their learning. For example, you state that you would take children to the park to meet their learning needs in relation to "Physical Development" and that they would do "physical things" while there. However, you do not describe what those activities would be and you do not make any reference to supporting their development in relation to their fine motor skills or

health and self-care. Your lack of understanding of the areas of learning and how to support children's development using a range of teaching methods limits your capacity to help children progress towards the Early Learning Goals.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has not taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
