Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Jacqueline Mason, monitored your provision on 26/09/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 25/07/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
During the monitoring visit the inspector discussed with you the steps you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. She observed activities in your lounge and viewed written records about children's learning and development, including the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. The inspector looked at attendance records, your record of complaints and your procedure for managing the use of mobile telephones and cameras in your setting. She also had a discussion with a representative from the local authority.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You stated that you have received support from the local authority and they have worked with you to develop a comprehensive action plan to address the issues raised at your last inspection. This has enabled you to accurately identify how to address the areas for improvement and to plan for on-going improvement. You explained that you regularly review the action plan, add to it and consider the impact of the changes you have made on children. You stated that you have found that your childminding setting now offers a richer experience for children and that the children benefit from good quality, purposeful time spent with them. You explained that you understand the importance of meeting the legal requirement, to ensure that ratios are maintained at all times. You pay due regard to the number of children you are legally able to care for at any one time. This supports you to provide effective supervision for the children and ensure that their needs are met. You now maintain a

p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You explained how you have put in place effective systems for establishing children's starting points when they first start at the childminding setting. As a result, you know where each child is in their learning and plan effectively for their next steps. You have taken good steps to improve how you apply the learning and development requirements in your daily practice. The inspector found that you use the information gained from the evaluation of your observations of children as they play, to identify their next steps and plan for each child's learning and development across the seven areas of learning. Activities observed during the visit were interesting and challenging for the children. You explained how you now understand the importance of the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years and have taken the necessary steps to implement this check. The findings have been shared
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you understand the importance of implementing a procedure for the use of mobile phones and cameras, in order to safeguard children's well-being. There are now clear notices showing that mobile phones must not be used in the childminding setting and the policy has been shared with parents. As a result, children's welfare is safeguarded. You demonstrated how you maintain a written record of complaints and concerns, including their outcomes. This record is available to Ofsted.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
