Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Lindsay Dobson, monitored your provision on 15/09/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 25/04/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.
p.1

During the monitoring visit the inspector discussed with you the steps you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. She reviewed how you safeguard children and your knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The inspector asked questions about your knowledge and understanding of the signs and symptoms of child abuse and how you would record and report any concerns that may arise. She discussed your understanding of the use of mobile telephones and cameras and how information is shared with parents' with regard to reporting any allegations of abuse. The inspector discussed and looked at your safeguarding policies and procedures and the other documents you use to protect children and keep them safe. For example, she looked at your daily record of children's attendance, your complaints record and the documentation you use to record accidents or injuries to children. The inspector

discussed with you how you promote children's good health. She also discussed how you observe and assess children's stage of development and how you plan for their ongoing learning. She questioned you about how you support children's emerging needs through both adult-led and child-initiated activities. The inspector took account of how you work with parents and other early years providers and how you ensure that all records are appropriately maintained and easily accessible. The inspector also talked to a representative from the local authority who was present throughout the monitoring visit.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you have worked through an action plan detailing the steps you have taken to address the issues raised at your last inspection. You have updated your safeguarding knowledge and your policies and procedures. This has improved your knowledge of the signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect. You are clear about the steps you would take to safeguard children and to make a referral if required, including referring allegations of abuse against yourself. You have implemented detailed policies and procedures with regard to the use of mobile telephones and cameras in your setting and you have shared this information with parents. You have also implemented additional documentation, such as a complaints procedure and record form, and a record of accidents or injuries to children. You have put in place a daily register of children's attendance, which shows accurate arrival and departure times. As a result, children are kept safe and are protected

from harm. Additionally, new storage systems ensure all documents are easily accessible to you, available for inspection and are suitably organised.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector acknowledged the changes you have made to the premises with regard to extending the available play space for children. This has made a more child-friendly environment. It has also enabled you to set out more resources, which are freely accessible to children and support their emerging needs and interests. You also plan and provide a balanced range of adult-led and child-initialled activities which support children to make appropriate progress in their learning and development. You continue to work with the representative from the local authority to develop your knowledge and understanding of the seven areas of learning and observation and assessment of children's progress. You use this improving knowledge to plan a range of challenging and stimulating activities. You share what you know about children with their parents, promoting a joint approach to learning. At the start of a child's placement you gather information from parents about

children's starting points and their stage of learning. As a result, parents are able to support their children's learning at home and you have a secure understanding of children's stage of development. You effectively plan activities and offer a collaborative approach to children's learning. Additionally, working partnerships with other early years providers have been established. Consequently, you complement and support the progress children are making at nursery and school.

Outcome of monitoring
You have improved the indoor and outdoor environment to support children's health and well-being. You have implemented a no-smoking policy and you ensure that there is no smoking in your home at any time. As a result, children's well-being and good health is promoted.
