p.1
Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Jacqueline Baker, monitored your provision on 12/09/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 07/05/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
During the monitoring visit the inspector discussed with you the steps you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. She made a tour of the appropriate areas of the home and garden used for childminding and had discussions with you throughout the visit. The inspector also spoke to a representative from the local authority. The inspector looked at your action plan, the way in which you record observations and assessment of children's progress and some written risk assessments that you have completed to support you in your work.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you have responded positively to the support offered by the local authority advisor. You have tackled the issues highlighted in your action plan and have put measures in place to address the safeguarding issues found at your last inspection. You demonstrate a secure understanding of when you need to inform Ofsted about members of your household. You also spoke with the inspector about how you manage your working environment when visitors are in the house. The inspector noted that you have procedures in place to fully inform them of your working practices and they will no longer be able to freely access the home without your knowledge. You explained that visitors to the home are infrequent and they are never left unsupervised with children.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You have improved your skills in observing children and assessing their development. You showed the inspector how this has enabled you to plan more successfully for children's next steps in learning and to offer them activities that both challenge and support them to make satisfactory progress in their early years. You told the inspector that you have now completed a progress check for a child aged between two and three years. This has helped you to gain a better understanding of the procedure. You have agreed to continue to improve you skills in both of these areas with the support of the local authority advisor.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you have now made provision to securely store required documents at the address from which you mind children. This means they are readily available for inspection or to share with a parent if required. The inspector looked at the written risk assessment for all areas of the home and for premises that you regularly visit. You told the inspector how you make daily checks to the childminding premises and this includes ensuring that the cat litter tray and food bowls are clean. You described how children never have access to the kitchen where these are housed and that cats have access to the outside, making the use of trays infrequent.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
p.2
Next steps
The next step will be a full inspection.
