Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Diane Turner, monitored your provision on 04/09/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 05/06/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
During the monitoring visit, the inspector discussed with you the steps that you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. She discussed the arrangements for safeguarding children, the use of cameras and mobile telephones in your setting and the planning of activities, to ensure these meet children's individual learning needs. The inspector also discussed with you your understanding of your responsibilities in meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and your arrangements for keeping a record of children's attendance and for assessing their ongoing progress. You have not accessed guidance from the local authority but you have sought advice and support from staff at your local children's centre and from another childminder. The inspector also viewed your policy and procedure for safeguarding children, the attendance register and a sample of your planning documents and children's progress records.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you have devised a clear action plan detailing the steps you have taken to address the issues raised. This has enabled you to accurately prioritise the areas for improvement identified at your last inspection and to plan for ongoing improvement. You have devised a written policy regarding the use of cameras and mobile telephones in your setting after seeking advice from the Information Commissioner's Office. As a result, you have obtained written permission from parents to take photographs of children, which are only used in their individual learning record as supporting evidence of the progress they are making in their development. Any photographs you take are then deleted from your camera or mobile telephone once they have been printed and placed in the child's learning record. In addition, you have devised a confidentiality policy that outlines how children's personal records will be stored safely and securely. This means children
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You have devised a written policy for safeguarding children which outlines your responsibilities in terms of child protection. You have obtained a copy of the procedure for referring any concerns to your area Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub, which includes relevant contact numbers. You have displayed the procedure for parents' information and your reference, should you have a concern about a child's welfare. This means the procedures for safeguarding children are now more robust. You have improved your understanding of your responsibilities towards meeting the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, including those regarding children's learning and development. You have achieved this by revisiting the Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and obtaining a copy of the revised framework that is effective from 1 September 2014. As a result, children's welfare, learning and development are supported more effectively.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
The arrangements for recording children's attendance have been improved. You now make sure that you promptly record the exact times that children arrive at and depart from your setting. Consequently, a clear record is kept of when children are in your care and when you are responsible for them. You discussed how the planning of activities has been reviewed after seeking advice from another childminder. Each child now has an individual, monthly learning plan which includes their learning styles, interests and how the next steps in their development will be supported through a variety of activities. As a result, the outcomes for children's learning are improving.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
You have reviewed the arrangements for assessing children's progress and you are now beginning to focus more on identifying children's levels of achievement using the Early Years Outcomes document as a guide. As a result, you have a better understanding of whether or not children are reaching the levels of development typical for their age and how you can support them to close any gaps in their learning, if they are not. This means each child is beginning to be supported more effectively in reaching their full potential.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
p.2
Next steps
The next step will be a full inspection.
