p.1

Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate

An Ofsted inspector, Diane Burt, monitored your provision on 31/07/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

As a result of our inspection on 07/04/2014, we sent you a welfare requirements notice. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter unless we have already verified that they have been completed.

and a notice to improve. The actions you were set are included at the end of this letter.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The welfare requirements notice required you to comply with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage under the following requirements: Staff: child ratios, Changes that must be notified to Ofsted and Information about the provider. The steps you were required to take were detailed in full in the notice sent to you on 9 May 2014. A previous monitoring visit, completed on 23 May 2014, found that you had taken prompt and effective action and were complying with the requirements of this notice.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

During the monitoring visit of 31 July 2014 the inspector discussed with you the steps you had taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. She observed you working with the children and viewed the resources and activities available to the children. The inspector looked at your children’s learning journals. She also had a discussion with a representative from the local authority. You continue to engage with the local authority and you have sought advice and training from them and started to implement this into your setting. You have developed an action plan with the local authority advisor. As a result, you have considered how you are going to improve all the areas which were identified as needing to improve at your last inspection.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector found that you are now considering the stage of development of each individual child, and that play is purposefully planned. You explained to the inspector how you use questions to extend children’s learning by asking, ‘what?’, ‘when?’ and ‘how?’. This means that children are now problem solving and considering different ways of completing activities, such as a jigsaw puzzle or a game. Children’s individual learning needs are being met, so that every child makes progress and no child gets left behind.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

You are planning activities according to children’s interests. All children enjoy the visits to Honeybrook farm, so you have laminated a map of the area and have made a small book of photographs which shows the animals there alongside pictures of the children. This encourages further communication when you are back at home with the children.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

You are using your assessments against all areas of learning to plan consistently for each child, to meet individual learning styles so that all children make progress in their learning. You have developed systems to evaluate the quality of your practice and its impact on children, by putting into practice what you have learned from a quality assurance scheme you are currently undertaking. Evaluating your provision means that you identify priorities for development and set challenging targets for improvement, with a focus on children’s achievements.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that at this time you have taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
