Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Helen Penticost, monitored your provision on 22/07/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 23/04/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter unless we have already verified that they have been completed.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
During the monitoring visit, the inspector discussed with you the steps you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. You have welcomed support from the local authority advisor to enable you to make improvements. The inspector viewed your training certificates and confirmation of future courses that you have booked to attend, looked at your system for recording children's learning and developmental information, and your written risk assessments. She also viewed your written policies and procedures, and discussed the action you have taken.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you have attended a training course regarding child protection and both you and your assistant are attending further training in November 2014. You have updated your child protection statement. You now demonstrate an understanding of the correct procedures that you would follow in the event of an allegation being made about yourself or a household member. You are also clear where to refer any child protection concerns about a child in your care. This helps to ensure that you report any concerns quickly and that children remain safe in your care.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
You have undertaken risk assessments of your home, garden and outings and have created a written record. This enables children to play and learn in a safe environment. You now record your assistant's working hours which enables you to demonstrate how you meet the adult-to-child ratios and how you supervise children to meet their needs. The inspector found that you now request written parental permission before administering any medication to children. This helps to ensure that you meet children's individual needs and well-being. The inspector found that you are making good use of the local authority to enable you to access training courses. You are beginning to make improvements to reduce weaknesses in practice and to improve the quality of your provision. You have plans to seek the views of parents in order to make further improvements, although the full impact of the self-evaluation is not yet fully evident. You now have a system to

help to ensure that children's learning and development information is consistently available. This enables you to address any developmental needs that may arise with relevant professionals. You have booked to attend training courses to support you in improving your practice in responding to each child's emerging needs and interests, but the full impact of this training is not yet evident.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
The inspector found that you have revised your procedure for managing children's behaviour to help ensure that you support children's self-esteem. This positive behaviour management strategy also develops children's awareness of managing their own behaviour. Both you and your assistant now hold a current first-aid qualification and you have two first-aid kits available. This enables you to care for children appropriately in the event of an accidental injury.
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
