This inspection

Young people are safe and staff are vigilant in keeping them safe. There is a strong safeguarding ethos in the home and staff are fully aware of young people's vulnerabilities and provide good supervision. There have been no incidents of young people going missing or of bullying. Young people are further safeguarded by the recruitment and selection processes. Files have been reviewed and any gaps in employment are explored and recorded which ensures the process is robust and helps prevent unsuitable people from having the opportunity to harm children and young people.

This inspection

Young people stay in an environment which is relaxed and friendly and enables them to settle and build positive relationships. Young people are provided with a range of activities which they enjoy. These include arts and crafts, a sensory room, outside play equipment and trips out. The planning of activities has been reviewed and a new recording system has been in place to evidence the variety of activities young people participate in. 3 of 5 Medications systems have recently been reviewed following a medication error. Procedures are in place that are followed in practice and staff have received updated training. This ensures practice is rigorous and accountable. All medications are safety stored and there is a clear system in place for recording all administration of medication.

p.2

This inspection

The home is effectively managed by an experienced manager who has a good understanding of the strengths and areas for development which are reflected in the development plan. However some areas of development are not fully embedded in practice but reflect the managers' aim to further improve the service such as joining the transitions group. This will help build positive relationships with other professionals and impact on support for young people in moving to adulthood.

p.3

This inspection

Young people are cared for by a competent and enthusiastic care team who are sufficient in numbers and experience. They provide consistency and stability to the young people. Staff are supported through a range of training opportunities, staff meetings and supervision. However, not all staff have had an annual appraisal. Consequently they do not all have an opportunity to reflect on practice issues and personal development. 4 of 5
