Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate
An Ofsted inspector, Linda du Preez, monitored your provision on 10/06/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
As a result of our inspection on 04/11/2013, we sent you a notice to improve. If you were set actions at the inspection, or as a result of our subsequent monitoring or investigations, these are included at the end of this letter unless we have already verified that they have been completed.
p.1
Outcome of monitoring
At the inspection on 7 November 2013 the inspector found that you had a limited understanding of the procedures to follow if you had a child protection concern about a child in your care. The notice to improve required you to ensure that there is a policy and procedures in place for safeguarding children which includes; who the childminder would contact, the action the childminder would take if an allegation was made against herself or a member of her household and the safe use of mobile phones and cameras. The date for completion was 6 November 2013. A regulatory inspector visited you on 10 June 2014 and found that you had not yet put a suitable policy in place. Ofsted will issue a welfare requirement notice which requires you to ensure that there is a policy, and procedures, to safeguard children, which is in line with the guidance and procedures of the relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) and includes an explanation of the action you would take in the event of an

allegation being made against you or a member of your household, and covers the use of mobile phones and cameras. It is an offence not to comply with a welfare requirement notice. At your inspection on 7 November 2013 the inspector found that you did not have robust risk assessments in place. The notice to improve required you to ensure that the risk assessment is effective and that identified risks are minimised, with specific regard to the accessibility of trailing wires. When we visited you on 10 June 2014 the regulatory inspector found that there were no trailing wires and you had updated your risk assessments, so that they are more effective and detailed. At the inspection on 7 November 2013 the inspector found that you did not maintain accurate attendance registers. The notice to improve required you to maintain an accurate attendance register that is a true reflection of the hours children attend.

Outcome of monitoring
When we visited you on 10 June 2014, the regulatory inspector found that you had updated the way in which you record children’s hours of attendance. Records show that you now maintained accurate attendance records. At the inspection on 7 November 2013, the inspector found that you did not recognise the weaknesses in your practice in order to drive improvement. The notice to improve required you to improve the systems for self-evaluation and monitoring strengths and weaknesses within the provision, and use targeted plans to bring about required improvements. When we visited you on 10 June 2014, the regulatory inspector found that you have attended training courses, but did not have suitable systems in place to monitor the strengths and weaknesses of your provision. This action remains in place and will be monitored at the next visit. At your inspection on 7 November 2013 the inspector found that you had a limited

understanding of the need to use observation and assessment to identify any gaps in learning. The notice to improve required you to develop a secure understanding of the learning and development requirements and provide activities that reflect all areas of learning, particularly the prime areas. You were also required to make systematic observations of children's learning and assess their progress across all seven areas of learning in relation to their age and stage of development and use this information to plan the next steps for each child. When we visited you on 10 June 2014, the regulatory inspector found that you were still developing your understanding of learning and development. You said that you have read the Early Years Foundation Stage and are keen to update you knowledge and understanding, but have not had children on roll to enable you to put this in to practice. Your progress in understanding children’s learning and development will be monitored at
p.2
Outcome of monitoring
Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has not taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
