Since the last inspection the manager has successfully completed the process to become registered. She has developed and motivated the staff team to use their skills and knowledge to improve the quality of care for children and young people.

p.2

This inspection

There are good arrangements for helping children and young people settle into the home. The Registered Manager has reflected on the quality of previous admission arrangements and improved these to minimise the impact of children and young people living together who may pose a risk to each other.

p.2

This inspection

All the recommendations from the last inspection have been met ensuring there is up to date information about the diverse needs of children and young people. A young person commented about the home 'staff support who we want to be.' This information is used to develop detailed care plans that reflect individual needs and backgrounds such as age, gender, education and emotional well-being.

p.2

This inspection

Children and young people benefit from the emotional support they receive and are able to build positive and trusting relationships with the adults that look after them. Staff are committed to standing by the children and young people despite the challenges they often present. There is additional support from in-house and external mental health services. This provides children and young people with counselling and helps staff develop individual strategies to support them.

p.2

This inspection

The improvements have contributed to making sure all children and young people have an appropriate educational placement and have increased there attendance. Staff encourage young people who have left school to further their education at college and apply for voluntary work to develop their skills. Young people feel that staff also educate them through developing independent living skills and taking part in educational activities. A young person commented about her time at the home 'I 3 of 5 am thankful for what they have done for me and I am ready to leave to semi independence.'

p.2

This inspection

Young people have a good say in what happens in the home and their day-to-day care. They are included in developing their individual plans and benefit from regular one-to-one time with staff. This helps young people to settle into the home, talk about any issues, and have a say in what they do and their future.

p.3

This inspection

The Registered Manager responds well to complaints and any safeguarding issues are taken seriously. Allegations or concerns about young people's safety and welfare are promptly addressed. Effective action is taken to ensure young people are safe and protected from harm. Young people reduce the times they are missing from the home and are less at risk from staying out late at night.

p.3

This inspection

The Registered Manager's monitoring of the quality of care and staff practice is comprehensive. She regularly identifies areas for improvement, such as staff training and behaviour management. This has ensured staff receive suitable training to meet the needs of young people and has also led to a reduction in incidents of poor behaviour. Staff report there is better morale, a more organised approach to their work and an improvement in supporting children and young people with their emotional resilience.

p.3

This inspection

The Registered Manager has amended care records to include more information about where children and young people progress in different aspects of their welfare. This improves the effectiveness of reviewing care plans to ensure children and young people receive care that meets their changing needs.

p.3

This inspection

The Registered Provider undertakes regular monthly monitoring. The reports of these visits cover a wide range of quality of care issues but lack information about how well the young people progress. There is no evaluation of the impact that living at the home has on the outcomes they experience. These shortfalls compromise the ability of the registered provider to improve the management of the home and the quality of care children and young people receive.

p.3

This inspection

There is one recommendation for further improvement in relation to the Registered Provider's monitoring. 4 of 5
