p.1

Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate

An Ofsted inspector, Ann Austen, monitored your provision on 23/04/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

As a result of our inspection on 29/01/2014, we sent you a notice to improve. The actions you were set are included at the end of this letter.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

During the monitoring visit the inspector discussed with you the steps you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. The inspector spoke to you and had a discussion with a representative from the Childcare Quality Regulations Advisory Team. She observed interactions between yourself and the children, viewed assessment and planning records and discussed partnerships with parents. The inspector discussed policies and procedures to safeguard children including the complaints procedure and viewed relevant documentation.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector found that you have developed an action plan to address the issues raised at your last inspection and have introduced systems to evaluate the quality of the practice and the impact this has on outcomes for children. This has enabled you to carefully consider how you are going to address the areas for improvement that were identified at your last inspection and to plan for ongoing progress.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

Observation and assessment processes have improved. You have attended a training course and welcomed support from the Childcare Quality Regulations Advisory Team to improve your understanding and abilities in this area. You are now able to complete more accurate observations and assessments of the children's achievements and progress including planning their next steps. As a result, you have improved your adult-focused teaching and children are now making better progress.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

Effective steps have been taken to enhance the partnership with parents. You now operate a key person system with your co-childminder. This has helped settle new children and enables you to ensure their care and learning is personalised to meet their individual needs. Procedures to encourage parents to contribute to initial assessments of children's starting points on entry and to keep them informed about their child's progress have improved. Parents are invited to regular consultation Our Reference EY300304

sessions with you and can talk with their child's key person each day. They are also encouraged to share information about their child's ongoing learning at home. This has led to a more integrated approach to the children's learning and development.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Effective steps have been taken to improve your complaints procedure. For example, parents are made aware of the correct contact details for Ofsted and the Ofsted poster is displayed for parents in the entrance area. This supports the effective management of the setting.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector found that measures to safeguard children have improved. This is because the safeguarding policy includes details of the action to be taken in the event of an allegation being made against you, the co-childminder and anyone who lives on the premises where care is being provided. You have also implemented more robust procedures to cover the use of mobile phones and cameras in the co- childminder's home. All revised safeguarding procedures have been shared with parents and posters are now displayed to remind parents not to use their mobile phones and cameras in the co-childminder's home. This means the safety and well- being of children has been further improved.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
