p.3

Progress

Since their previous inspection the service is judged to be making good progress .

p.3

Progress

The overall effectiveness of the home was judged to be outstanding at the last inspection in September 2013. Since that time, the home has made good progress.

p.3

Progress

There were three recommendations made at the last inspection and all have been met:- the provider was to ensure that the home remains well maintained with particular regard to sealant in the young person's bathroom and removal of broken fence panels in the garden. The bathroom and garden have had repairs made. The second recommendation was for written and electronic records to consistently demonstrate good recruitment practice; with particular regard to recording management decisions about the suitability of references. Human resource practice has now been revised to ensure that the senior staff in the home have full involvement in recruitment. The third recommendation related to staff training with particular emphasis on skills to meet the needs of the young people in placement. All staff are have accessed first aid training and are in the process of attending specific courses on self-harm and safeguarding.

p.3

Progress

Since the last inspection young people have been supported to access further education opportunities to enable them to move towards greater independence. There is excellent communication between the home and the training providers to support their education. The manager and staff have worked closely with placing social workers to ensure that external agencies are aware of young people's needs and that all agencies are acting consistently to maintain young people's health and safety.

p.3

Progress

Staff provide the young people in their care with a high level of care and support and staff have received specific training to meet the young people's needs. The in-house therapeutic team continues to provide training and support to both the young people and the staff, which enables the staff to maintain their alertness to young people's vulnerabilities and risks of harm.

p.4

Progress

Young people are supported towards independence with a structured independence plan that young people help develop in line with their individual levels of ability. The staff in the home recognise the challenges in preparing the young people for transition and they liaise effectively with other agencies to secure the best outcomes for the young people in their care.

p.4

Progress

The home continues to be managed very effectively. The manager is enthusiastic and child centred and provides strong leadership to the care team. She consults regularly with families and professionals, when appropriate, about care in the home, and continues to look for ways to improve the service for young people. For example, since the last inspection she has pursued the issue of extending a placement of a young person, with the placing authority, and this demonstrates the her commitment to securing stability and safety for young people.

p.4

Progress

Care staff report that training and development opportunities within the organisation are good which enables them to maintain and develop their skills and experience. They also have regular supervision and appraisal. They have an excellent understanding of the young people they look after and demonstrate a willingness to learn more to support the young people effectively and consistently.
