p.3

The inspection judgements and what they mean

Good progress The children’s home has demonstrated continued improvement in quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the large majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Satisfactory progress The children’s home has maintained quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Inadequate progress The children’s home has failed to address one or more requirements and/or has not met the majority of recommendations and/or the quality of care and outcomes for children and young people have declined since the last full inspection.

p.3

Progress

Since their previous inspection the service is judged to be making good progress .

p.3

Progress

At the last inspection in July 2013 the home was judged to be adequate. Four requirements were made as well as four recommendations. These have all been addressed and the home has made significant improvements.

p.3

Progress

The home's statement of purpose has been updated and now contains clear information with regards to the monitoring device used on the front door of the premises. The device is an alarm which sounds when the front door is opened. It is only used where necessary to promote young people's safety and where agreed upon by the placing authority. The home now has a policy in place with regards to the use of this device. Agreement to use this monitoring system is also signed by the young people and the placing authority officers to ensure that everyone understands the reasons behind its implementation.

p.3

Progress

The registered manager has improved the monitoring of recruitment records as part of her weekly monitoring process. This includes evaluation and effectiveness of her checks and the confirmation that all members of staff have had the necessary checks carried out on them prior to starting work in the home. Confirmation is now in place that all references have had their veracity confirmed via telephone calls, that all members of staff have permission to work in the United Kingdom if that is necessary and that all criminal background checks are up to date.

p.3

Progress

The home now has a core team of staff that are used consistently to provide support to young people in the home. Staffing records such as duty rosters confirm this to be the case. Additionally, feedback from young people also confirms that they are cared for by adults with whom they are familiar.

p.4

Progress

Scrutiny of staffing plans and rosters by the registered manager also ensures that members of staff responsible for leading shifts are suitably experienced and qualified. This has ensured that the staff team are consistent in their approach and that the young people receive good quality support and make good progress while at the home. 'This is the best home I've lived in, the staff really get me here' is a comment made by a young person.

p.4

Progress

The home continues to offer good levels of support to the young people living there. This approach is underpinned by bespoke packages of care which are reviewed regularly to ensure they are relevant and encouraging of each young person's development.

p.4

Progress

No new requirements or recommendations are made as a result of this interim inspection.

p.4
