p.1

Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate

An Ofsted inspector, Melanie Arnold, monitored your provision on 10/02/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

As a result of our inspection on 20/11/2013, we sent you a notice to improve. The actions you were set are included at the end of this letter.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

During the monitoring visit the inspector discussed with you the steps you have taken to address the actions raised in the notice to improve. She looked around the home at the areas used for childminding, noting the accessibility of the toys and resources to children. The inspector spoke with you to ascertain your understanding of how you use the characteristics of effective teaching and learning to support children's development. She discussed how you observe and assess children's progress and use this information to inform planning of future activities. The inspector also looked at records and documents including childcare record forms, contracts, medication and accident records.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector found that you have a satisfactory understanding of child development and the characteristics of effective teaching and learning, using these to support children's development through an appropriate range of hands-on learning experiences. You refer to current guidance materials when observing and assessing children's progress, using these documents to identify and plan some appropriate next steps to promote children's skills and knowledge within the seven areas of learning. You explained how you are planning to introduce a new computerised observational assessment system to provide you with more detailed and accurate information on children's progress from their starting points.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector found that you obtain and keep all required personal information about children, including their name, address and emergency contact details. You now ensure this information is obtained on children before they start in your care to ensure their needs are met. You protect children's well-being by maintaining documentation for the use of your car, including a current insurance certificate which covers you for business purposes. You obtain written permission to administer medication to children and you are planning to record more detailed information Our Reference EY399546

about when the mediation is administered. You also now maintain a record of accidents and are again planning to further enhance the range of information recorded to include more details about the injuries sustained and the treatment administered. This will further ensure the health and safety of children.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

The inspector looked around at the areas used for childminding and she noted that a good range of toys and resources are stored within the designated play room to provide children with easy access to them. You confirmed that you provide opportunities throughout the day for children to freely choose and access their own play resources, detailing how you then build-on their interests as you engage in their chosen play.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

You demonstrated that you have a satisfactory understanding of the Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. You detailed how you are developing a process of self-evaluation and are seeking the support of a local authority advisor to support you in continuing to develop your practice and procedures as you are committed to make and sustain improvements in all areas.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the childminder has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
