Monitoring for provision judged as inadequate

An Ofsted inspector, Lorraine Meldrum Sunter, monitored your provision on 29/01/2014 following your inspection where the provision was judged to be inadequate.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

As a result of our inspection on 19/11/2013, we sent you a welfare requirements notice.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The notice required you to ensure staff follow behaviour management procedures to positively support children at all times.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

In addition, you were also sent a notice of actions to improve which required you to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service check for all staff who work directly with children to confirm their suitability; provide training for all staff to ensure they understand the safeguarding policy and procedures, and ensure that all staff have up to date knowledge of safeguarding issues. Training must enable staff to identify signs of possible abuse and neglect at the earliest opportunity; ensure that staff promote the well-being of children by having sufficient understanding and use of English to communicate effectively how to safeguard children; ensure that policies and procedures for dealing with allegations against staff are consistently followed.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

A monitoring visit was undertaken on 29 January 2014. Through documentation used at the setting and through discussion at the monitoring visit the inspector concludes that the setting has taken prompt and effective action in making improvements in the areas identified in the welfare requirement notice and notice of actions to improve.

p.1

Outcome of monitoring

The setting has updated and implemented their Behaviour Management policy. This is detailed, containing information and explanation about how children's behaviour will be positively managed. An external agency provided a training day, attended by all staff and directors to update their knowledge and understanding of effective behaviour management. Since the training event, positive strategies have been used by the staff which has provided a more consistent approach in managing children's behaviour. Staff are asked to complete Impact Forms after attending any training event. This will show what knowledge and understanding they have gained and how it has impacted on their practice. Regular supervision meetings are held with each member of staff. Any training events attended are discussed along with any action to be taken as a result. All staff have a yearly appraisal meeting, during which individual training needs for the year

ahead are identified. Staff meetings are used to share any information about training that has been attended. Additional in-house training is planned four times per year for all staff to attend. Since their inspection the setting has implemented an induction procedure to be used with bank/agency staff. There is a is a checklist to be signed by the individual person before actually working with the children, Policies including Behaviour Management, Safeguarding and Code of conduct, must be read through and understood. Each person is asked to sign accordingly.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

A comprehensive safeguarding policy is in place. Following their inspection the setting re-visited their safeguarding training at a recent staff meeting, ensuring the procedures for this, including allegations made against staff, and their Whistleblowing policy were understood by all staff. They discussed signs and symptoms of possible abuse, how to record and how to report concerns. All staff are required to attend the local authority level one safeguarding course, most have done so.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

All staff, including bank staff, are recorded on a single central records DBS/CRB system. These records are updated on a three yearly basis.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

All permanent staff are assessed to have a good level of understanding and communication in English. Through their recruitment or induction procedure the setting will ensure that any new staff or bank/agency staff are capable of understanding and can communicate in English.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

A full inspection will now take place to evaluate the quality of the improvement made.

p.2

Outcome of monitoring

Having considered all the evidence, the inspector is of the opinion that the setting has taken prompt and effective action to address the points for improvement.
