Outcome of monitoring
An unannounced visit was carried out on 21/01/2014. Since the inspection visit, the inspector found that the provider had made satisfactory progress in meeting the welfare requirements. The provider was able to demonstrate a more appropriate understanding of behaviour management strategies and was to undertake further training in this area to enhance it further. The assistant identified an on-line training course to enhance his internet based research already carried out. The provider acknowledged her responsibility for the work of the assistant and had entered into a reflective dialogue with him to consider their practice. Areas accessed by pets were routinely cleaned and any equipment or resources the pets come into contact with were cleaned. The provider stated children were never unsupervised with pets. The provider sought advice regarding the use of appropriate car restraints. An accurate record of attendance is now held showing the names of children and the

There was also a notice to improve which had an action for the provider to address from the inspection on 21/11/2013, however the date for action to be taken by had not yet lapsed. The provider stated there was a more active dialogue between her and her assistant, which allows her to monitor his work and advise him on appropriate practices. The provider identified learning areas for the assistant and would ensure any training Our Reference 205638

needs are met. The provider understands the ratio requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and works to ensure these requirements are met. She employs her assistant when she will be outside of her own ratios. Children's hands are routinely washed following outside play, pet handling, before food and after toileting/nappy changes. The provider took steps to record observations and began to identify progress in learning. This was however in the early stages and required further enhancement to clearly identify developmental stages and next steps for learning. The provider obtained support from a development worker to further update her knowledge and understanding regarding learning and development requirements and areas of learning. The provider obtained consent from parents to leave the children in the sole care of the assistant for short periods. The assistant's paediatric first aid qualification was

Outcome of monitoring
A further monitoring visit carried out on 10 February 2014 found that further progress had been made in respect of behaviour management. The childminder and her assistant have a greater understanding of appropriate practices as a result of further research. The childminder has developed her monitoring and tracking of children's development. She identifies next steps for development and ensures starting points are recorded as required. The childminder was able to evidence that appropriate business use is in place for the use of the car for childminding purposes. The childminder also sought advice regarding the suitability checks for an occasional visitor to the home from Ofsted and was advised this was not required.
