Brief description of the service

The setting is operated by a private organisation and registered to provide care for three young people with emotional or behavioural difficulties between 10 and 17 years. The Statement of Purpose specifies placements are medium to long term.

p.3

The inspection judgements and what they mean

Good progress The children’s home has demonstrated continued improvement in quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the large majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Satisfactory progress The children’s home has maintained quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Inadequate progress The children’s home has failed to address one or more requirements and/or has not met the majority of recommendations and/or the quality of care and outcomes for children and young people have declined since the last full inspection.

p.3

Progress

Since their previous inspection the service is judged to be making good progress .

p.3

Progress

This home was judged as good at the full inspection and has subsequently made good progress. The home demonstrates continued improvement in the quality of care and outcomes for children and has addressed the large majority of recommendations made at the previous inspection. These were about behaviour management records, staff training, the Statement of Purpose and the monitoring of the quality of care at the home.

p.3

Progress

There has been no use of control or disciplinary measures at the home since the last inspection. However, the improved recording system for these now prompts staff to record matters in sufficient detail. Consistently good quality recording of these matters helps the staff and manager to monitor the records effectively and adapt behaviour management strategies according to the findings. All staff have now received up-to-date training in the use of physical restraint techniques. This helps to ensure that behaviour management practices are safe and in line with current government guidance.

p.3

Progress

The manager has amended the home's Statement of Purpose to ensure that it is up to date and accurate. In particular, it now shows details of the different approaches to both emergency and planned admissions to the home, staffing levels in the home and the correct details of the regulating body.

p.3

Progress

Some staff at the home have completed a level 3 qualification in working with children and young people to ensure they are trained and competent to meet young people’s needs. While all others are working towards completing it, the national minimum standard target that all staff hold a level 3 qualification remains unmet.

p.4

Progress

The manager has a system to monitor, evaluate and report on the administration of the home. She has collaborated with other managers within the organisation to help improve the recording and evaluation of her findings. The latest reports contain better details and they are more fully evaluated. These effective evaluations now help to ensure that the quality of care in the home remains high and continues to improve.

p.4

Recommendations

To improve the quality and standards of care further the service should take account of the following recommendation(s):

p.4
