This private home is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to three young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

p.3

The inspection judgements and what they mean

Good progress The children’s home has demonstrated continued improvement in quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the large majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Satisfactory progress The children’s home has maintained quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Inadequate progress The children’s home has failed to address one or more requirements and/or has not met the majority of recommendations and/or the quality of care and outcomes for children and young people have declined since the last full inspection.

p.3

Progress

Since their previous inspection the service is judged to be making good progress .

p.3

Progress

At the full inspection in October 2012, the home’s overall quality rating was good with one requirement and one recommendation set. The Registered Manager has met both of these, demonstrating good progress and an on-going commitment to improving the quality of care provided. The Registered Manager has reviewed the home’s notification procedures to ensure all significant events are reported to Ofsted. This allows the regulator to monitor the conduct of the home and contributes to young people's safety and welfare.

p.3

Progress

Since the last inspection, young people’s bathrooms have been re-decorated which has improved the décor and overall appearance. The Registered Manager identifies areas of on-going improvement through the home’s development plan. Some identified aims include refurbishing young people’s bathrooms to further enhance their living experience.

p.3

Progress

When young people go missing from care staff search thoroughly for them and actively encourage their quick return. Staff follow the procedures in place for reporting young people missing from care and respond positively to them on their return. Effective monitoring of these incidents allows the Registered Manager and staff team develop a clear understanding of the reasons why young people go missing. This enables staff to take appropriate action to reduce the incidence of missing from care.

p.3

Progress

The Registered Manager welcomes feedback from external sources and sees this as an effective aid for continuing improvement. Particular improvements have been made to formal consultation levels with social workers, independent reviewing officers and parents. While this is in its infancy, feedback received thus far is very positive. It contributes to the monitoring of the home linked to the quality of care and young people’s outcomes. Young people’s views continue to be heard through daily conversations, regular key working sessions and young people's meetings and forums. This ensures that their views support improvements in the home.

p.4

Progress

The management team have recently devised more in-depth independence plans which include clear evaluation of young people’s progress and on-going needs. This enables staff to focus on young people’s specific needs and provide highly individualised care. Staff continue to effectively support young people in developing their independent life skills, such as laundry, budgeting, cooking, shopping and general household tasks. They review and update young people’s detailed independent plans to reflect their age, specific needs and abilities. As a result young people make good progress and they become more competent in taking care of themselves in preparation for adult life. A young person said, ‘I have plans and I know what I want to do when I leave here. The staff have helped me with these plans and I love living here.'

p.4

Progress

The management and staff team remain stable, well-established and committed to the young people in their care. In meeting the requirement and recommendation raised at the last inspection, the Registered Manager has demonstrated good progress and an on-going commitment to improving the quality of care provided for young people.
