    Summary of outcome

On 16 August 2011 the provider notified us that a child had an accident on a wheeled toy at the setting which resulted in a serious injury. The notification means that the provider met their legal responsibility as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements relating to 'safeguarding and promoting children's welfare', in particular, to notify Ofsted of any serious accident, illness or injury to or death of any children while in their care, and of the action taken in respect of it.

    p.1

    Summary of outcome

We carried out an announced visit to the premises and found that children were able to play safely. Risk assessments are undertaken and regularly reviewed to ensure that risks and hazards are minimised. The provider has suitable systems in place to ensure children's safety when using wheeled toys that they bring from home. Staff provide appropriate supervision when children play outdoors on these toys. However, the provider does not keep a record within the risk assessment of the procedures the setting follows when children bring in their own wheeled toys. In addition, although the risk assessment has been recently reviewed, it has not been signed and dated and a record of the action taken recorded.

    Summary of outcome

We issued a notice to improve that requires the provider to:

    Summary of outcome

A satisfactory response was received and no further action was required. The provider remains registered with Ofsted.

    Publication of compliance action

We aim to ensure that the welfare of children and young people is protected in the services we regulate. The Childcare Act 2006 and accompanying regulations set out our responsibilities to regulate childminders and childcare providers. This includes the enforcement powers we have in relation to those registered providers who do not comply with the requirements for registration.

    p.2

    Publication of compliance action

We publish details of any actions we take, or the childminder or childcare provider takes to bring about compliance with requirements on our website for a period of five years commencing on the date we complete our investigation.
