Summary of complaint
On 24 March 2011 we received a complaint about the standard of hygiene at the setting. We needed to investigate the concerns to see whether the setting was meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements relating to Safeguarding and Promoting Children’s Welfare and Suitable Premises, Environment and Equipment. In particular that the provider must promote the good health of the children, take necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection, and take appropriate action when they are ill. Providers must discuss with parents the procedure for children who are ill or infectious. Registered providers must provide Ofsted on request with a written record of all complaints made during any specified period and the action taken as a result of each complaint. Outdoor and indoor spaces, furniture, equipment and toys must be safe and suitable for their purpose. The premises and equipment should be clean and providers should be aware of the

Summary of complaint
We do not investigate to prove or disprove a complaint but we look into the information we receive to see if the childcare provider is meeting all legal requirements.

Summary of complaint
We made the provider aware of our concerns and asked them to look into matters contained in the information and to provide us with a response. The provider has sent in information that shows there are appropriate measures in place to ensure that hygiene levels are satisfactory.

Summary of complaint
Although it was not part of the original complaint, we also identified that the provider has not notified Ofsted of a significant event where a child was given incorrect medication. This is an offence under The Childcare Act 2009. We sent a formal warning letter to the provider regarding the offence informing her that should there be any recurrence, we may consider prosecution on a future occasion. Also the procedures for the administration of medication are not implemented by all staff, and that the provider was unable to demonstrate that which staff are working with the children whilst other staff are on their breaks.
