Summary of complaint
On 10 March 2011, we received a complaint that raised concerns regarding safeguarding children, behaviour management of children and working in partnership with parents.
p.1
Summary of complaint
We needed to investigate these concerns to see whether the setting was meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements relating to ‘safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare'. In particular these include a requirement that states that all providers engage with and provide information for parents with respect to details for contacting Ofsted and an explanation that parents can make a complaint to Ofsted should they wish. In addition, we needed to investigate to see whether effective systems were in place to manage children's behaviour.
p.1
Summary of complaint
We do not investigate to prove or disprove a complaint but we look into the information we receive to see if the childcare provider is meeting all legal requirements.
p.1
Summary of complaint
The provider notified Ofsted that a child made an allegation of abuse. This notification means that the provider met their legal responsibility as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements relating to ‘safeguarding and promoting children's welfare. However, we identified that the provider did not notify the local child protection agency without delay of an allegation of child abuse.
p.1
Summary of complaint
We discussed the concerns with the manager and considered the detailed information and the evidence provided. The provider told us about some of the steps taken to put it right: The manager has devised an action plan which includes notifying their local child protection agency, without delay, of allegations of abuse. In addition, all parents have been sent policies and procedures to ensure a consistent and up-to-date knowledge of issues relating to practice and to be able to implement the policy and procedure appropriately. In particular this includes procedures dealing with complaints, child protection and behaviour management of children. Parents have been informed that they must put their complaints in writing relating to the requirements so that they are able to notify the complainant of the outcome of the investigation within 28 days of having received the complaint.
p.1
Summary of complaint
We are satisfied that the provider took prompt and appropriate action to ensure they continue to meet the requirements for registration. As a result, we decided it was not necessary for us to take further action. Although it was not part of the original complaint, we also identified that Ofsted were not aware of new committee members forming a part of the registered body and the provider is in the process of submitting new forms to Ofsted to rectify this.
p.2
Summary of complaint
The provider remains registered with Ofsted.
p.2
Publication of complaints
We publish details of complaints made against childminders, home childcarers and childcare providers where we or the provider have taken action in order to meet legal requirements.
p.2
Publication of complaints
We publish details of complaints for five years commencing on the date we complete our investigation.
