Summary of complaint
On 22 March 2011, we received a complaint that raised concerns about partnership with parents, documentation and ratios of adults to children. We needed to investigate these concerns to see whether the setting was meeting the Early Years Foundation Stage welfare requirements relating to ‘safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare' and 'documentation'. In particular these include a requirement that states providers must investigate all written complaints relating to the requirements and notify complainants of the outcome of the investigation within 28 days of having received the complaint. In addition, we needed to investigate to see whether records were being maintained accurately.
p.1
Summary of complaint
We do not investigate to prove or disprove a complaint but we check the information to see if the childcare provider is meeting all legal requirements. We carried out an unannounced visit to the premises and found that on the day of the visit the ratios of adults to children were being met. We checked documentation and found that a daily record of children's sleep times, food intake, and nappy changes are completed in a timely manner to ensure accuracy. In addition the provider told us they have taken prompt and immediate action to improve their procedures to ensure parents are assured of a written record of information relating to the exact times staff administer cream during children's nappy changes. Following our investigation, we issued a notice to improve that asks the provider to provide a written record of all complaints made in December 2010, and the action taken as a result of each complaint (The Early Years
