p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 2001. She lives in a house in Birmingham with her husband and seven children aged between four and 20 years. At times the childminder works with a co-childminder. All of the house is used for childminding and there is a fully enclosed garden for outdoor play. The family has two cats and goldfish.

p.4

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of three children aged under eight years at any one time, of whom no more than two may be in the early years age range. She is registered on the Early Years Register and the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. There are currently no children on roll in the early years age range. The childminder is a member of the National Childminding Association and a local childminding network. The childminder receives support from the local authority. She holds a level 3 early years qualification.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder ensures most required documentation is kept up to date and meets requirements. However, public liability insurance is not currently in place. Also, a Criminal Record's Bureau (CRB) check has not yet been completed for all persons aged over 16 living at the premises. The childminder demonstrates through discussion that she has a sound understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage which will enable her to support children in making progress towards the early learning goals. Through discussion she demonstrates that procedures for identifying children's starting points involve gaining information through documentation and discussions with parents. This includes collating evidence which will enable the childminder to assess children's individual needs. This process includes systems to monitor the children's progress across all six areas of learning. Through discussion the childminder demonstrates that the

planning of activities, for both indoors and outdoors, will mean children can take part in a range of activities to promote their social and independence skills.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates through discussion and documentation her sound understanding of what to do if she has any safeguarding concerns regarding a child in her care. However, evidence is not available to confirm that an appropriate paediatric first aid course has been completed. This may impact on the welfare of children attending in the future. There is a written safeguarding policy to keep parents informed. The premises are safe and secure, with risk assessments in place to maintain the safety of the premises at all times.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates through discussion that partnerships with parents, carers and other agencies will be fostered through the sharing of information to identify and meet children's individual needs. She would involve children in the process of determining the boundaries for the setting. Policies and procedures in place ensure a fully inclusive environment is promoted. The childminder can provide healthy snacks for all children and drinking water would be available throughout the day. The quality improvement processes, such as the self- This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 evaluation systems and the provider's commitment and drive to improve, ensure the provider has an awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of the setting in order to implement relevant action plans to improve the service provided.
