p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

Children only attend this setting before and/or after the school day and/or during the school holidays. The judgements in this report reflect the quality of early years provision offered to children during those periods.

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 1999. He lives with his wife and two children aged 13 years and 10 years on the outskirts of Leicester city. The whole of the ground floor is used for childminding. There is an enclosed garden available for outside play. The childminder is able to take and collect children from local schools.

p.4

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of six children under eight years at any one time, of whom no more than three may be in the early years age range. The childminder also offers care to children aged over five years. He is registered on the Early Years Register and on both the voluntary and compulsory parts of the Childcare Register.

p.4

Description of the childminding

At the time of this inspection there were no children on roll in the early years age group.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates through discussion and documentation, an appropriate understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage to support children in making progress towards the early learning goals. He is aware of the need to assess the children's individual capabilities and incorporate children's interests when planning activities. This process includes monitoring the children's development against the six areas of learning and identifying their next steps. Planned activities enable children to take part in both indoors and outdoor play, such as crafts, games, jigsaws and outdoor play to promote their enjoyment and social skills.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Through discussion the childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of what to do if he has safeguarding concerns regarding a child in his care. A clear policy for safeguarding includes the required information needed should the childminder need to take action. Overall the premises are safe and secure because the childminder undertakes risk assessments and daily visual checks. Discussions show that the children are helped to learn to keep themselves safe as the childminder teaches them safe practices such as road safety. The childminder minimises the risk of cross contamination by encouraging good hygiene routines.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Partnerships with parents and carers are built through the sharing of information to meet children's individual needs. The childminder is aware of the importance of building relationships with other early years providers to ensure consistency in children's learning. The required policies are in place and have been updated to meet the Statutory requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The childminder explains how he promotes a culture of care and sharing through playing games. There are a wide range of developmentally appropriate toys and resources available for the ages of the children the childminder is registered to care for. These include resources that promote equality of opportunity ensuring a fully inclusive experience. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 The quality improvement process, such as the self-evaluation is satisfactory. The childminder has not updated his written self-evaluation since the last inspection.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

However, he has taken the appropriate steps to meet the actions and recommendations from the last inspection showing a commitment to improvement.
