p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder registered in 2003. She lives with her husband and four children, three of whom are teenagers and one of whom is of primary school age, in Walworth in the London Borough of Southwark. The first floor of the childminder's house is used for childminding.

p.4

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. She is registered to care for a maximum of five children at any one time; of these, three may be in the early years age group. At the time of inspection there were no children on roll.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She shows a clear understanding of how to keep children safe and promote their well- being. For instance, she has attended relevant safeguarding training and describes clearly what steps she would take if she had concerns about a child's welfare. She has minimised risks in her home and garden so that children can play safely, by developing risk assessments and daily checks. She explains how she would help children learn to keep themselves safe by practising the fire drill with them.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder describes how she would offer a welcoming, inclusive environment for children. She would help them learn about wider society through providing resources and activities that promote diversity. She meets regularly with a local authority support partner and has taken appropriate action to develop her provision. For example, she has improved policies and procedures and has attended relevant training. She demonstrates the capacity to maintain continuous improvement through using reflective practice. The childminder has met the recommendations made at the last inspection.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder describes how she would gather information from parents before a child attends so that she has a good understanding of their stage of development, interests and individual needs. This would enable her to plan a suitable range of activities and learning experiences for each child. Resources are appropriate, in good working order and easily accessible. The childminder has lots of ideas for challenging children in their play and learning. She would use observations of children's progress to help her plan for the next steps in their learning.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder describes how she would work closely with parents. She would maintain open channels of communication and keep them informed, for instance through daily discussions. The childminder shows a good understanding of the importance of parents being involved in their child's learning. She also understands the value of working in partnership with other settings to provide a shared approach to children's care and learning. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
