p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

Introduction

Please see our website for more information about each childcare provider. We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

p.3

Description of the childminding

The childminder was registered in 1993. She lives with her husband and two grown- up children, in the Muswell Hill area, within the London Borough of Haringey. Childminding mainly takes place on the ground floor of the childminder's premises. There is a fully enclosed garden for outdoor play. The childminder is registered to care for a maximum of three children under eight years; of these, two may be in the early years age group. There were no children in the early years age range on roll at the time of the inspection.

p.4

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered by Ofsted on the Early Years Register and both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. The childminder is able to take and collect children from local schools.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder shows a secure understanding of her responsibility to protect children from harm and neglect. She demonstrates through discussion and documentation that she completes risk assessments for indoors and for outings to help keep children safe. In addition, safety equipment such as smoke alarms, safety gates and a fire blanket are in place. The childminder holds a current paediatric first aid certificate and demonstrates that she has the necessary skills to manage accidents.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates that she provides a child-friendly environment where children would be able to feel safe and secure. She explains that she organises toys and resources to promote children's self-confidence and independence skills. The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of the requirement to maintain records and documentation for the safe and efficient management of her provision.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates a developing knowledge and understanding of how children make progress in their learning and development towards the early learning goals. She describes how she is aware of the importance of making observations of children's progress and using these to plan for their individual learning needs. Through discussion the childminder demonstrates her ability to identify areas of her practice that she would like to develop to support her continuous improvement to enhance the outcomes for children.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates a sound knowledge of how she can include all children in activities and how to promote children's awareness of diversity and the world around them. The childminder also demonstrates a secure understanding of the benefits of working in partnership with parents and others who are involved in the care and learning of each child. The childminder meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
