p.2

Introduction

This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.

p.3

Introduction

The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).

p.3

Introduction

Children only attend this setting before and/or after the school day and/or during the school holidays. The judgements in this report reflect the quality of early years provision offered to children during those periods.

p.3

Introduction

The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.

p.3

Introduction

There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3

We publish inspection reports, conditions of registration and details of complaints we receive where we or the provider take action to meet the requirements of registration. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006

Description of the childminding

The childminder registered in 2006 lives with her school age daughter in the South Tottenham area within the London Borough of Haringey. The whole of the ground floor of the house is available for childminding. The garden is not used for childminding purposes so the childminder takes children to suitable alternatives in the local area.

p.4

Description of the childminding

The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. She may care for a maximum of five children under the age of eight at any one time; of these, no more than three may be in the early years age range. There were no children on roll in the early years age range at the time of the inspection. However, there are two children on roll aged between nine and 15 years. The childminder works Monday to Friday from 3.30pm to 9pm all year round.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder meets all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Through discussion, the childminder is able to indicate some of the procedures to follow relating to safeguarding children. She has updated her knowledge of child protection issues. The childminder reports that she carries out daily safety checks when caring for children. The records available show that the childminder carries out effective risk assessments for the premises and outings as legally required. She has well-organised policies and procedures in place to share with parents to help them understand her responsibilities.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

Through discussion, the childminder demonstrates that she recognises the value of working in partnership with parents to promote continuity of care for children. She has a suitable knowledge of how to establish partnerships with other settings that children may attend. She describes suitable arrangements for keeping parents well informed about their child's progress, for example, by maintaining a daily diary and a learning journal. Documents show that the childminder has sound systems in place to self-evaluate her practice. Through discussion, the childminder explains how this will be ongoing to secure further improvements. She keeps up to date with childcare issues and has addressed all the recommendations raised at her last inspection. This demonstrates a positive attitude and the capacity to maintain continuous improvement.

p.4

The overall effectiveness of the early years provision

The childminder demonstrates a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements. She describes how she would plan for individual children's learning and complete observational assessments to support this planning. She explains how she would take account of children's individual care and learning needs to help them make ongoing progress. She has a suitable range of toys and resources that would be made easily accessible to children. Through discussion, the childminder demonstrates she has a sound understanding of equality and diversity and this is a key element of her service. She demonstrates that she supports children in having pride in their own culture and having respect for others. The This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 childminder understands the need to treat each child as an individual and with respect, which promotes inclusive practice. The childminder reports how she can
