p.2
Brief description of the service
The home is registered to provide care and accommodation for one young person with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The home is owned by a private company.
p.3
The inspection judgements and what they mean
Good progress The children’s home has demonstrated continued improvement in quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the large majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Satisfactory progress The children’s home has maintained quality of care and outcomes for children and young people and where appropriate has addressed all requirements and the majority of recommendations that were raised at the previous inspection. Inadequate progress The children’s home has failed to address one or more requirements and/or has not met the majority of recommendations and/or the quality of care and outcomes for children and young people have declined since the last full inspection.
p.3
Progress
Since their previous inspection the service is judged to be making satisfactory progress.
p.3
Progress
This home is used by the provider for very short breaks only, for example, to defuse a difficult situation that may have arisen between two young people at another of the provider’s homes. It offers an opportunity for a young person to have some quiet time with staff, to reflect on their behaviour and to develop ways that challenging behaviour can be best managed. There have been three overnight stays since the last inspection but no young people were in residence on this inspection. There were no young people in residence at the last inspection, where the overall rating was judged as satisfactory. A previous requirement made at the last inspection relating to the stained areas of some carpets has now been fully met. The home has had replacement carpets laid throughout the home.
p.3
Progress
This inspection focused on whether the children's home meets the statutory requirements in order to maintain its registration and the outcome is that it remains suitable for registration.
p.3
Progress
As the home is currently empty, the staff team is not working there at present. However, the provider has arrangements in place to ensure that suitable staff would be available promptly, should the home become operational again. The number of staff on duty would be dependent on individual assessed needs. Permanent staff are currently based within other units and continue to receive formal supervision and mandatory training.
p.3
Progress
The home offers good physical safety and security and appropriate measures have been taken to protect young people, staff and visitors from the risk of fire and other hazards. These include periodic risk assessments and the statutory health and safety checks. There is a sound recruitment procedure in place, aimed at ensuring that staff are properly vetted for their suitability to work with young people. The home's Statement of Purpose has been updated from when last inspected and is comprehensive.
p.4
Progress
The premises continue to be maintained to a good standard to provide young people with a suitable environment. Each of the young people's bedrooms is appropriately furnished and ready for immediate occupancy. The home’s design and size are consistent with its purpose and function.
p.4
