p.2
Introduction
This inspection was carried out by Ofsted under Sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of the registered early years provision. ‘Early years provision’ refers to provision regulated by Ofsted for children from birth to 31 August following their fifth birthday (the early years age group). The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children’s learning, development and welfare, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.
p.3
Introduction
The provider must provide a copy of this report to all parents with children at the setting where reasonably practicable. The provider must provide a copy of the report to any other person who asks for one, but may charge a fee for this service (The Childcare (Inspection) Regulations 2008 regulations 9 and 10).
p.3
Introduction
The setting also makes provision for children older than the early years age group which is registered on the voluntary and/or compulsory part(s) of the Childcare Register. This report does not include an evaluation of that provision, but a comment about compliance with the requirements of the Childcare Register is included in Annex B.
p.3
Introduction
There were no children on roll when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no children on roll, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states if the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.

p.3
Description of the childminding
The childminder registered in 2005. The childminder lives with her husband and two-year-old child, in a two bedroom, fourth floor flat in Peckham. Shops, schools, pre-schools and toddler groups are all located within walking distance and there are good transport links into central London close by. Children have use of the lounge and the hallway of the flat for their play-space. The childminder takes children into the communal garden behind the flats for outdoor play. There are no pets.
p.4
Description of the childminding
The childminder is registered on the Early Years Register and both the compulsory and voluntary parts of the Childcare Register. She may care for no more than two children under eight years; of these, not more than two may be in the early years age range at any one time. There is currently one child in the older age group on roll and none in the early years age group.
p.4
The overall effectiveness of the early years provision
The childminder demonstrates appropriate understanding of child protection issues and the procedure to follow should she have any concerns. She is able to explain how she risk assesses her home and outings, which enables her to provide a safe environment for the children.
p.4
The overall effectiveness of the early years provision
Records show the childminder has updated her first aid training, so is qualified to treat any minor injuries. Documents include policies and procedures that support children's welfare, some of which she is in the process of updating to show changes in legislation. She demonstrates how she has carried out the recommendations that were set at her last inspection. This shows sufficient capacity to maintain continuous improvement.
p.4
The overall effectiveness of the early years provision
The childminder explains how she uses resources to help the children learn about equality and diversity. She describes how she organises trips to local drop-in groups to enhance children's awareness of the community, access to resources and promote their learning and development. Through discussion the childminder shows an understanding of how to observe the children and how to use this information to progress their individual learning and development through the provision of appropriate activities.
p.4
The overall effectiveness of the early years provision
Through discussion, the childminder demonstrates how she would promote healthy lifestyles with the children. The systems that are in place show how the childminder works with the parents to provide healthy snacks and for the parents to provide healthy meals. She describes how she teaches children the importance of hand washing routines. In discussion, the childminder is able to demonstrate how she would manage children appropriately and encourage good behaviour, such as sharing resources. This inspection was carried out under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006
